I watched a customer in front of me talk down to a nice young man behind the counter for no reason other than to prove how terrible people can be no matter how pleasant you are to them. I genuinely hope that any young person working retail understands that not everyone is a terrible excuse for a human being. It's just the ones who are, are always the loudest.
