For an upscale restaurant, serving imitation crab in a "special" lobster, crab, and trout roe omelette is unacceptable—especially when the roe was missing entirely. Had imitation crab been clearly identified on the menu, it would be understandable. Other dishes arrived lukewarm, and service was incredibly slow; it took 30 minutes and a nudge to the hostess just to get a coffee refill. We noticed similar issues at tables all around us. To their credit, the manager did take the omelette off the bill, which we did not ask for. As residents of Canandaigua for more than 50 years who have made multiple attempts at dining here, we have yet to have an experience worthy of the reputation we hear so much about. Disappointed.

The Rose Tavern is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and that warm, upscale aesthetic that the Lake House is known for. We stopped in for lunch, and Dominique was our server. She was phenomenal — friendly, attentive, and so easy to talk to. We discovered we had a few things in common, and she made us feel right at home. She helped us pick the perfect drinks, and we shared the seasonal salad and the steak sandwich since we were planning on an early dinner. Everything was fresh and delicious. I ordered a mezcal cocktail with wonderfully complex flavors that I thoroughly enjoyed. While chatting with Dominique, I mentioned another cocktail I liked, and Michael, the bartender, surprised me with a custom drink based on what I described — and it was incredible. The thoughtfulness and personal touch truly set this place apart. What I love most about this resort is how such an elegant, high-end space still makes you feel completely comfortable. Lori Proper helped us with our wedding, and she was amazing then, so I asked if she was around. She came by, warmly greeted us, shared more about the Sands family vision, and even took us on a tour of the facility. That level of hospitality is rare, and we appreciated it so much. The Rose Tavern and the entire Lake House team create an experience that feels both luxurious and genuinely welcoming. We can’t wait to return.
