I went through the drive‑thru twice, and both times someone inside was yelling so loudly and aggressively that it made me cringe and completely lose my appetite. The tone alone made the whole place feel hostile — which is shocking in the middle of the peaceful Catskill area.
I’ve had McDonald’s mess up orders before and I’ve always just lived with it. I’ve stayed silent. But the way this situation escalated over sauce packets — and the way the employees were being yelled at — was not okay. The time it took to sort everything out completely killed my food and my appetite.
I really hope my simple sauce issue didn’t cause more stress for the employees, because the environment already felt tense and uncomfortable. Most restaurants hand out sauces just to keep the line moving, but here they treated it like I was asking for access to Fort Knox. They even rang me up for sauces that are already included with the meal. I honestly don’t think a regular employee or manager would take this so personally, which makes me wonder who was actually running the shift.
FYI: The staff blamed the app for the sauce pricing, but I know app pricing is franchise‑specific. So I let corporate know this location needs help updating their pricing. The “free” sauces in the app are not free here, and they don’t tell you they didn’t put them in the bag. You only find out when you’re home or when you finally look in the bag — which I did about 10 minutes later — and I still had a very long drive ahead of me. Oddly enough, the sauces they told me aren’t free were the ones they gave me for free… while making me pay for the Hunter and Demon sauces that are supposed to be included with the 20‑piece. Bruv. Why are the Hunter and Demon sauces treated like the holy grail? You didn’t even give me the sauces for my nuggets — you gave me ranch and buffalo for my fries. So it’s pick‑and‑choose chaos.
The already barely‑warm, dry, brittle cheeseburger was bad, but I could have lived with that — I would have kept driving. What I couldn’t live with was no sauce for the nuggets and no mayo or buffalo for the McChickens. They’re inedible without the sauces. And imagine me sitting at the pickup window for several minutes because they gave me the sauces now but didn’t give me the mayo. Me just sitting there, holding up the line because I didn’t leave — and they weren’t coming back to the window. Waiting awkwardly on principle, debating giving up altogether, while the line slowly grew behind me. My passenger even said, “Maybe you should just give up,” and honestly, I don’t blame him. The kid who eventually came back looked frazzled — quiet, overwhelmed, and clearly doing more than one person’s job while someone inside was yelling loudly enough to be heard through the concrete wall and the closed drive‑thru window. That’s not leadership. A manager isn’t supposed to yell — they’re supposed to lead by example.
I have no idea what was being yelled — it was loud but unintelligible through the glass — but it was enough to make me feel like my simple request for the sauces that come with my meal somehow caused more stress for the staff. I know I’m probably overthinking it, but the whole situation made it feel like this franchise is losing too much money on sauce packets and the employees are stuck in the middle.
And now that I’m finally home, the food is still sitting untouched hours later. I’m still not hungry after the whole ordeal.
The whole experience felt like a mini kitchen nightmare. By the time everything was sorted out, my food was cold, my appetite was gone, and the atmosphere inside was so hostile I just wanted to leave. I won’t be coming back, but I genuinely hope the employees get treated better in the future.
