I can’t say I’ve aged much better myself, but he’s right—and the one a block from the Q train on Avenue U isn’t doing much to challenge the theory. The place is clean, the staff efficient, but there’s all the warmth of an ATM transaction. I’ve had more human connection buying MetroCard refills. Ordered tuna on a bagel—except what arrived wasn’t a bagel. It was bread with a hole in it, an imposter in a city that knows better. The tuna? Passable. Edible. Nothing I’d ever crave. The iced black tea alongside it was just as committed to mediocrity. If you’re wandering Avenue U and need something to fill your stomach, sure—the lights will be on, the doors open. Just don’t expect anything more than that.
