🚨 PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING: CTown Supermarket at 241 Taaffe Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11205 Must Be Investigated 🚨
I'm calling on the NYC Department of Health, local news outlets, and community leaders to urgently address the unacceptable and hazardous conditions at CTown Supermarket, 241 Taaffe Place, Brooklyn, NY 11205.
This supermarket is consistently selling spoiled, rotten, and expired food—including:
Bruised, moldy, and discolored produce
Wilted vegetables and rotting fruit
Old meat that appears unsafe
Crushed, damaged, and expired packaged goods
This is not an isolated incident. This is a systemic, ongoing issue affecting a predominantly Black and Brown community, many of whom rely on EBT/food stamps to feed their families. Meanwhile, just a few blocks away in a more affluent, white neighborhood, other CTown locations are fully stocked with fresh, high-quality, healthy food.
Let’s be absolutely clear:
This is not the fault of the hardworking staff at this location. The employees are doing what they can with the low-quality inventory they’re sent. This is a deliberate and discriminatory supply chain decision made by those who think this community doesn’t deserve better.
And as a result, we’re forced to travel outside our neighborhood just to find safe, fresh food. Imagine that—having a supermarket steps away from your home, but still needing to take time, energy, and money to shop miles away just to feed your family healthy meals. That is not convenience. That is neglect and discrimination.
This isn’t just bad service. It’s environmental racism. It’s public health negligence. And it’s a clear example of food apartheid—where one community is given access to health and wellness, and another is left with scraps and rot.
We demand:
An immediate inspection by the NYC Health Department
Accountability from CTown management and corporate leadership
Equal access to fresh, safe food—regardless of zip code or income level
Our community is not disposable. Our health matters. And we will not be silent.
To every official, journalist, and advocate reading this:
Go see CTown at 241 Taaffe Place for yourself. See how we’re being treated. Then do something about it.
