Publix is a great store Company. I shop there often and take advantage of their sales and also use the pharmacy for my Rx. The stores are genuinely clean well lit and well stocked.

Whitehouse Station. Quiet town. Rolling hills. And a supermarket where you can buy an excellent rotisserie chicken and briefly wonder if you’ve accidentally wandered into a luxury goods boutique. Kings is not a large store. In fact, it’s almost charmingly compact. The aisles are tight, the footprint modest. But whoever stocks this place has clearly made peace with the idea that if you’re going to be small, you might as well be excellent. The deli is strong. The kind of deli where the slicer hums with confidence and the staff seems genuinely proud of what they’re putting in that paper wrap. The bakery is another highlight. Solid baked goods, and a very respectable lineup of Italian breads and rolls. The kind that make you suddenly decide dinner should include olive oil, butter, or both. The bagels are decent too. Not quite “argue about them on a New Jersey food forum” level, but good enough that you’ll happily bring a dozen home. Then there’s the rotisserie chicken. A very good bird. Juicy, well seasoned, exactly what you want when the plan for dinner is “I’m tired and this chicken is doing most of the work.” On Tuesdays, it’s $6.99, which may be the single greatest value in the entire building. The cheese selection is excellent. A proper spread of interesting cheeses that suggests someone in purchasing understands that not every household wants pre-sliced cheddar in plastic. And this is where we arrive at the central truth of Kings. It is… expensive. Not “a little pricey.” Not “premium grocery pricing.” No. This is the kind of place where you casually pick up a few items and the checkout total briefly makes you wonder if you accidentally purchased a small vineyard in Tuscany. Bring your banker to the checkout line. Or perhaps access to your home equity. To be fair, the selection is impressive given the store’s size. The quality is clearly high. Someone has taken real care to curate what’s on those shelves. But still. You’ll leave with excellent bread, great cheese, a beautiful chicken… and the lingering sense that your grocery bill may need its own line item in the household budget. A small store. A very good store. Just one that occasionally feels like it’s priced for people who casually refer to their second home as “the place in Vermont.”

The Store in Whitehouse is very cold inside. More so than other markets. And there's no reason for any registers to be open when there are staff available. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable.
