Cafe Alyce absolutely nailed it. I ordered the boneless ribeye with sweet potato fries and sautéed snow peas and took it home and somehow the steak was still perfectly cooked. Tender, flavorful, and clearly high-quality meat. The sides, sweet potato fries and sautéed snow peas were fresh and well done, not an afterthought. Getting a steak this good to go is rare. Outstanding meal, start to finish.

EDIT: Tory — Let me emphasize that my group arrived to a virtually empty restaurant, and let me again remind you that we were there for 1 hour. Of that hour, we spent 40 minutes waiting for our food. Your blind defense of your staff is twee but ultimately unjustifiable; it’s clear that you have a host of issues to address, but it’s not my responsibility to point them out to you. As a point of emphasis to anyone reading this review (or Tory’s attempt at a justification), know that if you arrive to this establishment when it’s empty, and without a reservation, you will be seated directly next to the bathroom, and you will spend 40 minutes waiting for a burrito that you can prepare at home in 10 (assuming you know how to crack an egg). Instead, I highly recommend the brunch at Frankie or Mathew’s for a more expedient, fulfilling, and satisfying dining experience. Tory — I hope your next dining experience in Jersey City is better than the one you provide to your own guests. - - - I went here on Saturday, November 22nd; we were a group of 3 (I live in Jersey City, but my brother had driven for an hour to meet us), and we arrived at 9:15am without a reservation. The place opened at 9:00am and was completely empty, save for a single table of 2. For context, my brother and I had had breakfast here before; we always arrived within an hour of opening, and always without a reservation. The gentleman host/server who greeted us (physical description: tall, lanky, longer dark hair) asked if we had a reservation, to which I said that we didn’t. I asked if we could sit at the lovely table in the corner, near the windows. He said that that table was reserved for a group that had made a reservation, and he “really wished that he could let us sit there” (his own words). Despite the place being virtually empty, he said that he could “manage” to seat us at the table furthest from the windows, directly next to the bathroom. He then passed us off to another server and walked away from us. Visibly disappointed, we proceeded to sit down at the table, but our server said that we should sit at the table just behind it, because he felt bad seating us directly next to the bathroom. We expressed our appreciation for the gesture. We were only there for an hour. During that hour, several small groups arrived and were seated, but the table where we had asked to sit remained completely vacant. I had the breakfast burrito, which I had had before. It was satisfactory (as it had been in the past). We chose Cafe Alyce for the convenient location, but we won’t be returning. To the host/server who seated us next to the bathroom: Kick rocks in an open-toed shoe. To the server who recognized that my group had been treated poorly, and directed us to another table: Thank you for the kindness. To the owner of this establishment: You’ve lost a patron in the neighborhood.

We stopped by this quaint shop with a rustic feel. The bread was nice and warm. The beef was well marinated and mixed with the bell peppers over eggs. The lox was unexpectedly warm with a side of mixed greens salad. The service was fairly fast - we ended up pouring our own waters

Came here a few times, the food was ok. The sandwich i ordered was very cold and tasted like it was done in a hurry. The place was packed, so that might explain the rushing of preparing the food, but for a $22 dollar sandwich, you should expect better. The service however wasn't so great. The main seating venue was very crowded so we need to go to the nearby venue, the person taking us there was very unprofessional and treated me and my friend like a nuisance, we were just asking about our seating options, but he was very agitated and looked very frustrated. Overall this place is very expensive and doesnt offer great value in terms of food or quality of service for the money.

Rarely do I feel compelled to leave bad reviews but based on my experience eating at The Alyce this Sunday (October 26, 2025) I feel I don't have a choice. I came with my wife, son, and sister from out of town for a 1:30 pm seating for their brunch service and was greeted by our waitress for what was probably the first and last time. She didn't give us silverware, bring our drink orders, or provide any type of service for the remainder of our visit. We were primarily attended to by the host, Raphael (who was the highlight of the visit), while our waitress lingered by the bar chatting with colleagues or seemingly wandering around aimlessly throughout the remainder of our visit. In fact, we were comped by who I assume was the Manager with a free Biscuit before our meal came out because of how little service we received within the first 30 minutes of our visit. When we closed the bill at about 3pm, we made a point to tip the Host separately because he alone was helpful during our visit even serving drinks for us at one point. Then comes the food, and spoiler alert, its not much better. It started well with the Kale Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad we ordered but sadly that was the highlight of the visit. Everything else was bland to a point I wondered if there was a salt shortage due to Tariffs. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, it was served cold, watery, with the consistency of the porridge you see in prison movies. It was inedible to a point I sent it back, which I have done only twice in my entire life. It was replaced with an uninspired Cheeseburger and Yuca fries, which were mid at best. My wife's Corned Beef Hash was also bland, flavorless, and lukewarm. The biscuits that came with the Shrimp and Grits and we got comped for were flavorless, though fluffy; KFC does them better. It took them forever to bring Ketchup to try and help add some taste to our meals, but as our waitress was MIA, it took the host to bring it to us. I'm not even sure it was the waitress who came to collect the check. I'm not sure how a restaurant can bungle a breakfast menu so badly but kudos to the Alyce staff for pulling it off. I called to let the Management know earlier today about our experience and was told only "Sorry, we were short staffed", which I found odd as the restaurant wasn't full most of our time there and its small. Also our waitress didn't seem busy as she was often lingering by the bar area chatting with colleagues. I have no idea how the Alyce has gotten such a high review score, probably bots, but the reviews are the reason we tried the Alyce over many other options. Hopefully, this review will save others time and money as I 100% do not recommend at all. Terrible service, terrible food. ADDITIONAL EDIT: I felt bad leaving this review so I called the owner Tory, who is active on Reddit, to let him know about our experience thinking maybe I was an outlier considering the positive reviews, and that was a mistake. Tory called me back to defend his team, as seen in the reply below, by literally calling me a LIAR regarding my experience. Typically when a customer has a BAD EXPERIENCE the approach is not to be combative, defensive, and insulting but this is the Cafe Alyce experience. He stated we had a table touches 30 times during our two hour visit which is not true unless he's counting clearing plates and bringing items we had to request. He also tried to defend the food as intentionally "lacking salt" and "we have now started putting salt on the table" I guess for guests who prefer flavor with their meals. He asked, "what can be done?" and I suggested a refund, he declined. After which, he called me a liar and the call devolved into a heated conversation before I ended it. Consider all of this before deciding to dine here: the owner calls his customers liars, argues with them, and admits to the food being unflavored slop. Make of that what you will but the real truth of the Alyce experience lies in the bad reviews and not the 5 star bots he is clearly using.
