This is in fact NOT TRUE. It’s a policy to make people use the bigger carts and buy more. However, the store wants you to think the area is crime ridden. SHAME! Every checkout is self checkout so they’re saving tons of money laying off staff. Worst grocery store in New Jersey.

As soon as I opened the package, there was a strong, unpleasant odor, and several mussels were already open and slimy — clearly not fresh. I had to throw them out immediately, which ruined our dinner plans and wasted both money and time. I expected better quality and freshness from Stop & Shop, especially for seafood labeled as “fresh.” Please review how your seafood is stored and handled, because this was unacceptable. I hope steps are taken to ensure other customers don’t experience the same disappointment.

Their meat dept always has a huge amount of manager specials out labeled with discounts 1 day before last day of sale. It doesn't look like they're selling much in that dept. Produce decent layout tough to navigate, will deal with it for last minute plans. I don't buy anything in meat dept other than Bell & Evans chicken or closeouts that I can immediately feeeze.
