My neighbor was so kind enough to go shopping before the storm hit for me. I am 84 years old and he knows I have no car and I work with a cane.
He brought my chicken to me and I opened it. This is what I saw both legs torn off the roasted chicken. How disgusting is this? This is what Stop & Shop does. Remember before you buy check carefully, but I’ll never buy any of the chicken from them or anything else.

I had a deeply upsetting and humiliating experience at the Stop and Shop in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
I used the self checkout with the handheld scanner guns, not the regular self checkout. I scanned all of my items, including a case of water. While I was checking out, the employee overseeing the area asked me if I scanned the waters. I told her yes. She did not ask to see my receipt or verify anything further.
As I was walking out, my shopping cart suddenly locked and triggered an alarm at the exit. Everyone was staring at me. It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. A male employee then approached me and asked for my receipt. I explained that if this was about the waters, they had already been scanned and could have easily been verified when I was asked earlier. He did not even bother to look at the receipt.
At that point, it no longer felt like a misunderstanding. It felt like I was being singled out.
Given the current climate, especially for the Latin community, this experience is extremely concerning. Many of us already feel watched, questioned, and targeted in public spaces, and this situation only reinforced that feeling. If Stop and Shop is going to use scan and go technology, employees need to be properly trained to handle concerns professionally and discreetly, not by publicly embarrassing customers who have done nothing wrong.
