This was our first time dining at J. Gilbert’s. We had come straight from our son’s track meet in Des Moines so we were a bit underdressed but appreciated that they did not turn us away. On a normal day, we would have definitely dressed more business casual.
The restaurant wasn’t loud or echoey and we were to comfortably hear each other talk. The food was excellent! Our son ordered the lamb racks and said they were some of the best he’s had. My husband and I each order the filet with a lump crab cake. They were excellent as well. We were just at The Drover the night before, and though it was a nostalgic experience, I must admit that the food and service at J. Gilbert’s was far better.
Our server was very knowledgeable and we appreciated his sarcastic humor. Because it was our son’s 19th birthday, for dessert, they brought him a cheesecake with a lit candle but didn’t embarrass him with any singing (thank you!). I had the carrot cake. My husband had the crème brûlée. All were delicious! Best carrot cake I’ve ever had. And that crème brûlée was legit the crème de la crème brûlée! So don’t skip out on dessert. It’s worth the calories!

It was the absolute worst steak I have had in Omaha. It was served cold and so was the Blue cheese Butter. The service was even worse. The waitress didn’t bring our meal someone else did and she never came to ask how the meal was so I could not even send it back if I wanted too. Most expensive ok glass of wine I’ve ever had - HA!

Dined here for the first time and it was fabulous! Our server, Logan, took the time to explain everything to us. He was very knowledgeable and attentive. Food was delivered in a timely manner and delicious. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion.

I’m very sad to say that my dinner here was really not good! We came for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. His steak was very salty and our drinks were not made the best very bitter, Moscow mules. I understand it’s a Friday and they get busy. But we were very sad about the experience. We are sad to say we aren’t planning on going back. The atmosphere was great and so were the staff. Very attentive and all very kind. The food was the main issue. We did find other steak places to try that are nice. I wouldn’t say this is in my top 5.

We came here based on a recommendation from our server at Jason Street Tavern. We told him we wanted a nice steak place to sit down and eat. So I went online and made dinner reservations for the same night and it was painless and very easy todo online.
Parking can be a bit tricky but we parked using the hotel valet and that was fine.
When we arrived the place was already jammed pack with people and it was the happening place to be. For starters we went with the blue cheese potato chips, jumbo lump crab cakes, beef carpaccio, and bacon wrapped shrimp.
I want to say that all the appetizers that we had were phenomenal and hit the spot just right. Very good J Gilbert's!
For dinner I went with the miso glazed sea bass and a cup of the crab bisque soup.
While waiting for our food I went with the blood & marriage drink and boy that was delicious, I actually had two of them!
After we tackled the appetizer, I dove head first into the crab bisque soup. I'm a sucker for any type of crab or lobster bisque and I had to try this. All I remember the soup had good flavor but man was it salty for my liking. I just remember eating it and thinking this is one salty soup.
Then the main event came and I have nothing but good things to say about the miso glazed sea bass. I finished my plate and it was really good. The rice isn't really sticky rice like they say.
Overall my meal at J Gilbert's was on point and highly recommend with 4 stars. Food is good and the service was good as well. I'll def come back again.
