After living here for 16 years, this was my first time to downtown Blue.
i’ve been to the blue on the west side when we first moved here, but did not go back because I like a more authentic than commercialized sushi restaurant setting, and prefer to sit at the sushi bar where we can interact with the chef, order items that we like but are not specifically on the menu.
We are from Vegas, and that is how every sushi restaurant is on West Coast states too. So our first time at blue years ago was shocking to find this was not the arrangement everywhere.
First and foremost, there are many roads which are only 1 way, and it seemed that every single one of them had at least one blockage; we went round and round in circles for an additional 15 to 20 minutes trying to get there; because even though maps showed where some of the construction was, it didn’t show where all of the construction was. And it was disorienting trying to drive safely, and consult digital map for alternative routes each time we came to another blockage even though we thought we had identified the original blockages in advance.
OMAHA: do better! No need for that much construction on every single road at the same time, ESPECIALLY with our numerous one way directional streets.

BLUE:
Fortunately after all that, parking was easy to find right next to the restaurant on a Thursday night. It was 10/30, night before Halloween if that made any difference.
Sushi and variety of selections was great, setting was nice.
Font size on menu was MICROSCOPIC and I wear bifocal contacts.
Fortunately our friends wear strong glasses, so I had to put one of theirs on *over my bifocal contacts* to read - which STILL the font was quite small.
I understand that when there’s that many items on the menu and the restaurant chooses to do a 2 sided 1 page menu, that this is going to occur.
BUT, while convenient for the restaurant, if our friends did not have glasses, I would not have been able to read the menu.
That would’ve been very frustrating and we would’ve had to rely on our server for suggestions, which was not an option for numerous reasons.
Server: GiGi, was nice. However, I definitely would not have been comfortable relying on her for sushi suggestions if we would not have been able to find a way to read the menu.
2/ more times than not when she came to the table she would receive 1 order / set of instructions/request, and then bolt before anyone else could collect their thoughts and ask for something else, or remove additional plates, etc.
Didn’t think much of it the first or second time that it happened but it continued throughout our time there, that at one point I had to gently but firmly tell her “please stop and do not runoff, give us a moment.” it definitely became a point of frustration.
3/ the 1st instance was when I first arrived, I was the last person there, she took my drink order which was club soda, no ice, no fruit, with a straw. When I finished stating those details- she asked me if I wanted “a lime”…
I reaffirmed no fruit.
When she returned my order was how I wanted it, except it had ICE… I have sensitive teeth…
We were seeing our friends for the first time in a year, who live out of town. I chose not to pursue the
*no ice*
because I didn’t wanna set that tone, nor bring any other problems our way.
** However in that same instance of my drink order initially being taken, as soon as Gigi and I finished exchanging those details, she ran off.
Our friends had waited to order “drinks“ until I arrived so they only had the given water initially provided to them, but she did not ask anyone else if they wanted any other drinks too.
One of our rolls was not brought out, it finally was once I brought it to her attention. Not a huge deal, but keep an eye on that. We did order a lot initially, so it can be easy for something to be missed. Just keep track and ask for it.
Overall, it was a good experience. Hopefully a coaching opportunity can be provided to Gigi on the service feedback for improvement. 🥹🦋
