  Subject: Compliment for a wonderful employee at the Sanford store I would like to share a compliment about an employee working at the Food Lion at 1931 S Horner Blvd in Sanford, NC this morning, around 9:30–10:00 a.m., at the customer service desk. My husband and I stopped in briefly while traveling so we could quickly use the restroom and then grab food and snacks for the day. We had our adult cousin with us, who has special needs. We asked her to meet us by the bathroom and then return to the van so we could get her what she needed. While we were in the restroom, she snuck away to get a drink she is not allowed to have and thought she could do this without us noticing and wandered toward the front of the store instead of the bathroom (which were nicely clean btw). She had a dollar someone had given her and became fixated on getting a bottled Starbucks coffee from the cooler. She did not have enough money for it and, due to health reasons, she is not allowed to have coffee and high sugar foods and drinks. She can sometimes be very persuasive with people when she becomes focused on something, and this is how she ended up with the dollar in the first place. The employee working at the customer service desk showed incredible compassion. She saw my cousin and believed she might be struggling, and out of kindness she actually paid for the drink with her own money to help my cousin. At the time, I did not know where my cousin had gone. When we came out and couldn’t find her, I was running through the aisles and in and out of the store in a complete panic trying to locate her. When we finally found her walking outside with the coffee, I immediately returned it to the employee and explained the situation. In that moment I was overwhelmed and frightened, and while I did thank her, I’m afraid my tone may have sounded harsh because I was in full panic mode trying to make sure my cousin was safe and embarrassed to have to explain that she uses a lot of manipulation to get things she obsesses over. I want to make sure this employee knows that her kindness did not go unnoticed. The compassion she showed toward someone she believed might be struggling speaks volumes about her character. She treated my cousin with dignity and care, and that kind of empathy is something you cannot train—it comes from the heart. She is an absolute sweetheart. And she was a true champ when I was acting like a spastic basket case. I truly believe she deserves recognition for the way she cares for people. Please extend my appreciation to the employee who was working the customer service desk at that time. I also want to apologize if I seemed abrupt when we spoke. My reaction was driven entirely by fear while trying to locate my cousin. I wish I had gotten her name. Again, I am a spaz and my brain didn't focus on getting her name. Your employee demonstrated genuine kindness and humanity, and I’m very grateful for that. Her empathy, her compassion is like a breath of fresh air!

  Employee was racist, thinking I didn’t know English. Employee’s NEED to have better customer service. Giving attitude while working is crazy! If you don’t like your job then DON’T work there! Management needs to talk to their workers.
