This review comes after enduring several acts of racialized and gender-based aggressions from staff members at this particular locale. I resist being a passive bystander any longer to this prolonged hostility simply because we live in a 'purple' state which wavers between Democratic and Republican extremism. Although this area is definitely teeming with food insecurity and biases galore, I refuse to be bullied around and even distracted or dissuaded to participate by all those issues by continuing to advocate for myself and my family in this climate. I give 1 star for the affordable and reliably in quality shape produce as well as the gentleman in the Deli section who consistently exudes kindness, Southern hospitality, and hygiene across all his interactions we've witnessed for a while. The blank stars are for the recent interactions which include 1) heavy surveillance of my family and I with no customer service or help although we're regular customers who abide by the laws as we're swarmed by staff in aisles and scoured over if we check out with the machines since the human-led aisles are often closed or ridiculously backed up, and I wonder if it has to do with their annoyance that we bring re-usable bags for our groceries which does manifest in irked but also irate cashiers who seem to go out of their way to over-bag any items we've got with their plastic offerings when I clearly, gently hand them my reusable bags. Reality is I wind up bagging our groceries myself since many cashiers resist the reusable bags, however I ensure to show them my empty bags first and point it to the surveillance cameras due to not trying to become implicated; 2) cashiers now frequently over-charging me to the point where I have to go correct them and prove it by showing them the price in the section where I retrieved it in the midst of a transaction; 3) people frequently trying to run people over with their vehicles in the parking lot and jamming up the crosswalks with semi-parked cars and both hand-held as well as push-carts are frequently missing and unavailable for safely, cleanly, and temporarily storing groceries until checkout time; 4) a store clerk recently was controlling who was directed towards the self-checkout kiosks, however he consistently passed over me, ignored me when I politely confronted him about the matter, then let me observe as he gestured to others to access various kiosks while I politely let the couple know that they had cut in front of me and patiently waited for them to finagle their payment as it did not repeatedly work for them while they kept sarcastically laughing and telling me they're sorry. Similarly, a cashier and shift lead arrange for us to wait in line for up to 30 minutes since the cashier does not speak Spanish and experiences obvious challenges in assisting her primarily Spanish-speaking customer with SNAP Benefits as they attempted to figure out what she did and did not have covered by her card. There was a lot of public humiliation we witnessed of those folks, which is unnecessary and unacceptable. Further when we were patiently waiting, nobody thanked us or during that time offered to help us at another line, and we were rushed out when it was our turn. This happens often, when it's our turn, the cashier is having a conversation with some other staff member so they frequently over-charge us, which seems to be antithetical to their organizational core value claims. The employees' misconduct and inability to accept our humanity is a blight on this community. Yet families such as ours do persist, let it be known, though, it currently remains amid such duress from oppressive factors in this establishment causing significant distress. I am of course open to discussion regarding this matter if representatives of this space and/or their parent company desire to explore opportunities for community improvement, equitable reciprocity, genuine customer appreciation that is equally distributed, and restoration of basically respectful interactions.

Stopped in to pick up some meat and cheese from the deli. An employee named Jarrin helped me. I like to get opinions and asked him what he recommended. He know what notes the individual meat had. After settling on the roast beef, I asked which cheese went well with it. He recommended some sharp american. While slicing it for me, he recommended I heat the roast beef just a bit and then throw the cheese on top while the beef was still warm. I normally have good interactions with the deli staff here, but Jarrin went beyond to help me.

I’ve never written a review for a grocery store before, but I felt this one deserved it. Whoever is working in the kitchen making the fried chicken and rotisserie chicken truly deserves recognition. This is the ONLY place in New Bern where the rotisserie chicken is actually seasoned everywhere else in town tastes unseasoned and bland by comparison. I genuinely appreciate the fried chicken and the rotisserie chicken here. Thank you to the kitchen staff for consistently doing an excellent job. 👍

produce and the meat departments are terrible have not touched a cucumber that doesn't felt like it was rubber and bell peppers that are wrinkled and have bruises selection was terrible employee said come back after 10 oclock that's when our truck arrives. so people that shop early get screwed on selection lots of empty shelves in the meat department and only have extra thin steaks when they go on sale buy meats from Piggly wiggly so much better and produce even Walmart has a better produce section.
