Awful customer service Ordered a pick up order, smoothie wasn’t ready, and it had to be remade three times. I ended up with not a smoothie but a juice drink. They couldn’t get it right. After 10 minutes I just finally took something. Ladies working also were talking on personal phones in the middle of making the order.

On November 5th, 2025, at around 1:30 PM, I visited the café to place an order. Upon arrival, I noticed several customers waiting. At one point, a customer mentioned that she had been waiting for about 20 minutes. Later, a staff member, a young Hispanic woman, approached the customer and responded with an attitude, mistakenly perceiving the customer’s comments as a complaint. This interaction escalated, with the staff member using inappropriate language and making an offensive remark stating “That’s why I don’t like White people”. The behavior was extremely rude and unprofessional, which ultimately led me to leave without placing my order.

About two weeks ago, I stopped by this Tropical Smoothie Cafe when it was pretty busy, and I have to say, I was impressed with how well the younger staff handled the rush. They were polite, respectful, and made sure every order was right. It really showed that they took pride in what they were doing and genuinely cared about the customers. However, when I came back a few days ago, I noticed a big difference in the atmosphere. There was an older Black lady behind the counter (race isn’t important, but just describing for context) who seemed to be in somewhat of a leadership role. Instead of helping the team during the rush, she was mostly standing off to the side near the silver table, scrolling on her phone and doing small side tasks while giving very blunt, direct orders to the younger workers. The energy felt tense — you could tell the employees didn’t feel comfortable or supported. When she spoke, they would respond shortly, in a passive-aggressive way, almost like they were just trying to avoid conflict. It honestly gave the impression that the workers felt like they were in trouble just for doing their jobs, rather than feeling encouraged to give their best effort. That kind of environment can take a toll on the overall service. If there was someone there who could actually motivate the staff, make them feel valued, and bring back that sense of teamwork, this location could easily go back to being one of the bet and well respected locations in Charlotte. The service at this specific Tropical Smoothie has been getting worse over time, and I think a big reason might be that the company has apparently let go of some of the employees who I normally always see when I come in who truly valued what they did and created a positive experience for us customers. Good employees are the heart of a business, and when they’re replaced with people who don’t seem to care as much, it really shows. I want to shout out Jayda, amaree, london and there was a tall black guy who was a bit heavy set (maybe it name was Trayvon or Trenton I don’t quite recall) for how they handled the rush when I came in a couple weeks ago. Amazing employees!

I was upset when I open my food after pre-ordering because I was on my lunch break. At the end of the day, my rap has never been shorter than my hand. This was the size of a burger period cutting it in half was pointless. I typically would eat half of my wrap for lunch and the other half when I got off work. However I ate the entire thing and still hungry which sucks... I love to eat healthy. I spent almost $16 for a meal that filled me up like a kids meal at a fastfood joint. Highly disappointed....
