My husband and I ate here on a Sunday night. We had reservations for our anniversary, and we were seated when we walked in. The restaurant was moderately busy with some open tables.
Ambiance - It was the same O-Ku that we remembered except that it was cold inside. A lot of the other patrons had their coats on. I can understand wanting the busy staff to feel comfortable but the temperature needed to be a little warmer. Also, maybe it was just the table where we were seated but it was pretty dark at our table...we had to use our phones to read the menu.
Service - Our enthusiastic server was very nice...just a little distracted or maybe pulled in too many directions. We ordered drinks. He asked if there were any allergies. I explained that my husband was extremely allergic to shrimp/crab/lobster. He repeated my information and walked away to put in the order. Imagine our surprise when we were brought my sushi roll with shrimp on the same plate as his!? Obviously, this very important information was not passed on. Not cool. They were also out of one of the sashimi orders we made. Bummer. After we finished our rolls, he took our orders for additional food. My duck buns came out in about 15 minutes, but it took 35 minutes for my husband to get his 6 pieces of sashimi. Too long.
Food - My Red Dragon roll was very good. Some of the sashimi tasted metallic or a little old. My husband's roll was torched, and you could taste the butane. The duck rolls were tasty but they were missing the pickled shallot and there was little or none of the sake hoisin. I guess the server knew we weren't happy with our service because he did give us two servings of two amuse-bouche. That was a nice touch but the food overall was not what we remembered and was disappointing.
Overall, not the evening we were hoping for. We were return customers who had previous good experiences. I don't think we will be back. Too many other, better restaurants in Charlotte.

My husband, daughter and I had an amazing experience! Second time dining here and it’s the best quality sushi in Charlotte. They also bought my husband a lakers coffee cup as a birthday gift after asking what his hobbies and interests are when I made the birthday reservation. Service and food are top quality. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has not been there before. My cocktail was also one of the best I’ve had in Charlotte. Amazing experience, will return!

Meal and service were really good, we sat right at the sushi bar. Unfortunately as we were paying the bill a cockroach came up onto the bar and then crawled back down before we could get anyone’s attention. Not what you want to see after you finish your meal at all, especially sitting next to the sushi bar! Manager told us this is not common at the restaurant, but left it at that.

Yooooo when I tell you this place was amazing, believe me. I have never had true sushi before and I used to think it was disgusting. This was my first time actually trying sushi in this way before. The experience started at the door. Awesome service man i swear i haven't seen anything like it before. The host was attentive, helpful, and had really positive energy I wish i could remember her name but she was mad dope. We waited about an hour to be seated felt like only 10 minutes and it was worth it. Mei-ling (sorry if i butchered the spelling) was THE BEST server!! Hands down! She guided me through the menu gave me suggestions and everything she suggested was a hit! Her energy was really refreshing. I dont have many fine dining experiences, but this was definitely a 10/10. She made the experience for me and my friend that much better. Mei ling was having me try things that I never imagined i would ever try😂. As far as the cost of everything.... more than worth it no questions asked. It was a little intimidating looking at the prices, but once that first peice of Sushi hit my mouth I forgot about the rest and just enjoyed the experience. Restaurant is amazing, great energy, hardworkers, creative menu, tasty food. Shout out to the pastry chef too dessert was amazing the flavors are different but they tasted delicious. When my wallet isnt mad at me anymore im gonna slide through again😂mei ling deserves a raise for that, cause i never ever ever ever thought that I would love sushi the way I loved it last night!
