Inspired by the wood-fired Robata grills of Japan, Mizu offers a refreshed take on live-fire cooking atop the Hyatt Centric in the heart of Charlotte’s SouthPark neighborhood. Led by the award-winning Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the rooftop restaurant combines the traditions of ancient Japanese cooking with Southern influences and Asian flavors. The chef offers a seafood-focused menu composed of wood-fired, raw, and chilled offerings, sushi, and shareable plates. True to the word Mizu’s translation to ‘water’ in Japanese, the space’s design takes inspiration from natural elements, which are incorporated throughout the chic, minimalist restaurant, and outdoor terrace with sweeping city views.
Service experiences varied widely; some customers praised attentive and friendly staff, while others reported slow service and lack of attention.
Food Quality
Food received mixed reviews; while many dishes were praised for freshness and flavor, others were criticized for being overpriced or lacking in taste.
Atmosphere
The restaurant's ambiance and rooftop views were frequently highlighted as a major positive aspect of the dining experience.

My friend and I went in on Friday 2/27. It took 15 minutes for us to get water, another 20 to get anything besides water. Before we ever ordered food, we ordered drinks. Our sushi rolls came out before them. We were told the bar was backed up. When we finally received the drink I ordered, it was missing ingredients. I ordered a lychee martini that was placed in a glass with ice and no lychees. I was then told they were out of martini glasses and he wasn’t sure why they put ice in it. I couldn’t help but feel like we were being treated differently than everyone else. I noticed the couple sat right before us got water pretty quickly. We were going to order entrees but decided to cut our losses and go somewhere else. A shame, honestly. This was some of the best sushi I have ever had and I won’t be back to have it again.

My wife and I used to frequent Mizu quite often a few years back. We came back for a double date with some friends recently. The food was very good as expected, but the service was horrendously slow. We are generally patient and don't cause a fuss, but this was an unusually terrible experience. Our waiter was visibly frustrated and clearly being overworked. It took him nearly an hour to take our dinner order and our food didn't come until around the 2 hour mark.
In general, it felt like there were just not enough staff to accommodate a busy Saturday night. The manager was also invisible the entire time we were there and never apologized for the wait or miserable experience. The prices have also become quite outrageous and the portions have become noticeably smaller. We have loved Mizu in the past, but probably won't be going back. There are just so many other places we can go to in Charlotte now.

A wonderful experience. We were in town during Restaurant Week and chose to try this spot. Service was top notch! The food was really good. Great flavors and generous portions! The view of the city was also really amazing!

Great atmosphere and great service. Food wasn't that good and very much over priced. Sushi was pretty good.

The ambience, food, arrival, service all A++. I am the biggest food critic and they checked all of the boxes. Flavor profiles are on point. They went up and beyond to make my birthday surprise an unforgettable one. My waitress was a-mazing! Recommendations to visit your restaurant have been sent out lol. Thanks Mizu. We shall return ❤️.
