I was very disappointed by the service I received. My employer, Duke Hospital, gave employees a $50 food voucher for Thanksgiving, which was supposed to be used at any grocery store. It even had the Food Lion logo on the front and listed the store as one of the recommended locations.
I took the voucher to the store a few days before Thanksgiving and was told that they didn't know if they could take it, even though the Food Lion logo was visible, and that they would have to wait to hear back from corporate. Since I had just received it, I assumed it was new and decided to wait a week.
By then, a few of my co-workers had successfully used it, including at a Food Lion in Durham. So, I thought, "Great, let me go back and try again."
I returned to the store and even informed the customer service representative about my co-worker using the voucher at the Durham location. The representative went into the office, came back out, and stated, "No sir, we do not take it."
This was really confusing, especially since another Food Lion was accepting the voucher with no issues. After being denied a second time, I drove to Wegmans, who happily took the voucher and processed it.
The day after, while talking to my co-workers, I found out that another co-worker had used the voucher at this exact same Food Lion just a few days before Thanksgiving.
Did I just encounter a clueless employee two trips in a row, or did they simply not want to lift a finger and decided to turn me away instead? Either way, it was a very disappointing experience, specially since the employee on the second trip went to the office to double check with the manager/shift supervisor.
