Awarded both a Michelin Green Star and Bib Gourmand, Luminosa brings a hyperlocal lens to Italian cuisine; where Appalachian ingredients meet Italian technique. Located inside The Flat Iron Hotel in downtown Asheville, the restaurant celebrates the region’s farmers, foragers, and makers through an ever-evolving, seasonally driven menu. The wood-burning oven serves as Luminosa’s heart, infusing handmade pastas, rustic pizzas, and locally sourced vegetables with a touch of fire.
Praised by Travel + Leisure for delivering “bold flavors, strong ties to the local community, and a menu that lives up to its Appalachian claims,” Luminosa is both a culinary destination and a reflection of Asheville’s creative spirit. The warm, wood-forward space evokes a modern tavern, complemented by a beverage program that highlights local brewery collaborations, craft cocktails, and a thoughtful wine list grounded in place.
Very nice Italian meal. We started with their bread service and some assorted cheese - both very good. I had pan seared trout for my main, and it was delicious. Service was attentive but borderline slow. I understand they don’t want to rush you through your meal, but…. Anyway, the atmosphere was OK, although we were expecting a more quiet dinner. Several kids were nearby and then a dinner birthday celebration, so it was a bit more “festive” than expected. While at the Flat Iron Hotel, be sure to check out the 9th floor rooftop bar view, and also the speakeasy which is way way down in the basement. Very unique bar.

My husband and I were recommended Luminoso through a local Foodies page on Facebook. We booked a reservation for our 10 year anniversary. We were blown away by the astounding service we received from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. The entire staff made us feel like movie stars on our big day! We had never experienced anything like it! Without a doubt, Luminoso provided the best dining experience of our lives! The food was also 10/10. We started with a salad, which had no business being that good. The dressing was a tasty Meyer lemon that tasted bright and fresh. I ordered the caramelle and my husband ordered the agnolotti. Both dishes were delectable. The English language does not contain a word sufficient enough to describe how delicious the caramelle is, and since I only speak English, I am at a complete loss on words. My husband also had the Midnight in Rome cocktail. The sweetness of the vermouth was nicely complemented by the herbal notes of the cynard and that all pairs well with the subtle spice of the rye. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the semifreddo, which were both unreal. We will definitely be back! We owe the foodie group a huge thank you for the recommendation!

Came here for my husband’s birthday without a reservation on a Sunday evening; they kindly accommodated us (with our baby) and sat us outside. It was a lovely day; our waiter was amazing (I think his name was Felix). They gave us free mocktails for my husband’s birthday and made excellent recommendations. Everyone was really nice to our 15-month-old, which was unexpected given it’s a fancy restaurant. The food was superb. Tasty and great portions. Highly recommend!

A truly special dining experience. This is where you want to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc. You go in thinking you're gonna treat yourself and you leave feeling like the restaurant treated you, like a VIP.
They really don't need my 5 star review, but they sure deserve every single star they've gotten!
Hospitality at its highest level of standard and execution.
The careful multi stage inspection of the wine glasses.
The Hallyburton plate placed so that the Luminosa logo on it faces you.
The whole team works like a beautiful orchestra, conducted by the skilfull manager, Sarah.
Tony was our Host, and they were very friendly and approachable.
Kristin was our sweet, patient server, who made me feel at ease despite it being my first time ever going to a restaurant of this caliber.
And yes, of course, the food... Everything was a masterpiece. A careful balance and harmony of tastes, textures, color... Nothing out of place. Our favorites were lion's mane mushroom, melted spinach, and tardivo.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to get a reservation, go hungry! Even if you aren't hungry, you will be haha.

This review reflects only the VEGAN MENU and service.
I emailed them ahead of time asking if they had vegan options. They responded with a photo of their vegan menu, and said to mention I was vegan when making the reservation and I would be presented with the vegan menu once seated.
Upon arrival for our 7:15 reservation they said our table wasnt ready and we could go upstairs to the bar/rooftop and they would text me when it was ready. They text at 7:34pm that our table was ready. Upon check in they asked who's Birthday it was and seated us. Once seated I was not presented with a vegan menu and had to ask for one. There was however a card on the table that the staff had all signed wiahing me a Happy Birthday. This was really nice, I've never seen any other establishment do this before and it did make me feel very special. I ordered the marinated olives for an appetizer, and the Bucatini for my entree.
The olives were a variety of 3 types of olives, a hearty portion for an appetizer. Can't really mess olives up. We waited an hour, possibly longer, before our entrees to arrive. When they arrived they brought out the vegan pizza and said it was on them. I believe this was because of the long wait, and the fact there was no vegan dessert option.
The bucatini was extremely underwhelming and unimpressive. The menu states there is supposed to be Covington sweet potatoes but if they were there, they were only there as dehydrated flakes. The pasta felt very dry like it was tossed in a couple tablespoons of sauce. They came to pack up the food in take out boxes and never returned. My friend had to go search for someone to ask if they had accidentally tossed it and they said no they had it in the kitchen. That would have been fine with us if they had communicated that with us in the first place.
The atmosphere was definitely 5 star, beautiful restaurant. The staff were friendly, professional, and service minded. They need to work on their communication and wait times so operations are smoother. We had a 7:15pm reservation on a Wednesday night and didnt get out of there until 10pm because of all the delays. I would only return if they made major improvements to the vegan menu.
Vegans will survive here if you have to, but you will not thrive. I would go to Plant instead for a truly amazing, out of this world, 5 star quality vegan food.
