Awarded both a Michelin Green Star and Bib Gourmand, Luminosa brings a hyperlocal lens to Italian cuisine; where Appalachian ingredients meet Italian technique. Located inside The Flat Iron Hotel in downtown Asheville, the restaurant celebrates the region’s farmers, foragers, and makers through an ever-evolving, seasonally driven menu. The wood-burning oven serves as Luminosa’s heart, infusing handmade pastas, rustic pizzas, and locally sourced vegetables with a touch of fire. Praised by Travel + Leisure for delivering “bold flavors, strong ties to the local community, and a menu that lives up to its Appalachian claims,” Luminosa is both a culinary destination and a reflection of Asheville’s creative spirit. The warm, wood-forward space evokes a modern tavern, complemented by a beverage program that highlights local brewery collaborations, craft cocktails, and a thoughtful wine list grounded in place.

My son took me here for my graduation (actually retirement) since he had heard great things. THAT didn’t even begin to quantify the experience!! Host suggested we visit the roof top bar being 15 min early….GREAT cocktails and views. Recommend booth seating…I wanted to rent it all night! Extraordinary food…meat & cheese board, lemon pizza (outstanding), gnocchi (best I’ve ever had), another excellent pasta, and the Lion’s Mane mushroom….all best in class. Jesse as our server was as extraordinary as the meal…charming, entertaining, knowledgeable, and pure delight! He made the meal an experience and by far surpassed any service we have ever received. The manager (didn’t get her name) was terrific and genuine in her interest in our satisfaction. This is a don’t miss experience from start to finish!!! Thank you for a memorable meal and service. 15 out of 10!!!

I’ve already left a review before and have only eaten here once but I was looking through photos today and came across the lovely card they left for us on our 11 year anniversary and honestly I’d leave a good review once a week if I could. I still dream about the meal we had here sometimes. Not a single thing I have ingested over the last 6 months since I ate here has remotely compared to even the simplest bread crumb upon a plate in this fine establishment (a plate that I assuredly licked clean). It was possibly the most delicious and border-line spiritual eating experience I’ve had, to date. Like honestly if you’re on the fence about spending the money, just do it. Go. You wont regret it. Go and eat and tip them well because these people are as close to godliness as food and service could be. I am eagerly awaiting my anniversary this year just so we have an excuse to come back. Love you Luminosa! Y’all are the best!

What a wonderful dining experience!! The staff were all incredibly attentive and kind reviewing the menu with us. We celebrated our anniversary tonight, and the table was appointed with flowers and a handwritten card. So thoughtful. My husband ordered steak, I got the rigatoni, and we shared a salad and lemon pizza as an app. Was all delicious. We will certainly be back! Thank you Luminosa for such an incredible evening.

I made reservations through "Open Table" and the only time available was 8:00 PM. We wanted something a bit earlier and messaged the restaurant through Open Table. They very kindly changed the time for us. They were aware it was a special occasion as we were getting married the next day. We were greeted as soon and we walked in the door with such enthusiasm from several team members. At the table were flowers and a hand written card to congratulate us. :) Photo of card coming as soon as I upload it. Our server took our drink order and while we waited, she brought us a sampling of their green tea with carbonation and another ingredient that I can't remember. Our food was amazing! We had the bone in (HUGE) pork chop, bread service (while it was good, we'd have preferred a bowl of garlic knots dripping in olive oil and garlic). We also ordered the rigatoni with sausage. This dish packs a punch of heat. I asked for light heat and it was still quite spicy but delicious. Sides were the wet spinach (no idea what this is but...) and I was so surprised at all the flavors. We were gifted the charred carrots and would have taken all the leftovers home but we were in a hotel. What a great experience. Last thing I will say is......if you are looking for authentic Italian food, Luminosa may not be for you. Their take on Italian/Appalachian flavor is quite interesting and refreshing.

We'd planned to go to Asheville for my birthday, so I reached out to a local Asheville chef friend of mine to ask who had the best pizza. He suggested Luminosa. We had no idea it was part of the Flat Iron, where we were staying. Knew nothing about it, but his opinion is enough. An ice storm was on its way, but we decided to head up Friday with the expectation of leaving Saturday due to weather. We had a 5:30 reservation and asked upon arrival if we could move it-allowing us to walk around before dinner. We were directed to the hostess, Imani. They could not have had a better person up front- she was warm, accommodating, boss lady. She'll take care of you. She let us know she could move us if we were cool with sitting next to the kitchen. Absolutely! Fast forward and we were seated with David as our server, next to the kitchen. The man had a PhD in everything in that restaurant. We'd never been, he walked us through everything and picked wine for us based on what we like- we don't really know, but red, light, fun, bright, full. My husband had one sip and his eyes widened. I'd never seen that before. He never understood my love for food experiences like this because he'd never had one, and come to find out, neither had I. David made him understand the food...where it came from, how it was made, and why. The "why" for them is simple- it comes from the love for it. Brings people together, right? We chose the sampling menu which was an entire menu that allowed us to sample a lot at what we thought was a very reasonable price. If you think you've had a Caesar salad, you definitely have not. The beef carpaccio was something I'll never forget. Tender beef with an aioli (I think), crispy capers, something green, probably something else. David suggested trying each item separately then together. He was right. I may have fist pumped, but I definitely did the happy giggle when something is that good. We'll be back at the end of this month and I'm going to ask for a sheet pan of it. The lemon pizza and bolognese were up next. The pizza is worth the hype. The pasta noodles were on another level. You know when you have pasta and you're satisfied but you know it needs a little something else you can't put your finger on? Not here. It's perfect. David could tell we were slowing down, so he asked to box up what was left on our plates so we would have room for the Denver steak and scallops. He had my full trust after the wine and my intuition was correct. My husband has sworn off all steak since that because it'll never be good enough and somehow the scallops were light, warm, simple, and exciting at the same time. While we were dining, Chef Sean was next to the kitchen and checked in. We explained we would likely leave in the morning because of the weather. He said that if we decided to stay or if we had to for safety, they'd take care of us. I do not know the requirements of a Michelin Star, but Luminosa should have its own galaxy.
