High expectations and higher disappointment! The place had the menu of being stellar Nepalese food, but it lacked the flavor and the service.
The place was dead. Zero lighting in the restroom, unromantically dim lights in the seating area, and service that lacked any form of engagement. The staff was ready to pack up and leave when we arrived roughly 80 minutes before closing time. It showed in their service.
We called for the Chicken steamed momos along with the Chicken Chowmein.
Chicken momos: They were alright. Slightly dense dough, good portions of the minced chicken that was flavorful, but the dough made it slightly heavy tasting than the ones we’ve had in other places. The sauce is high on vinegar and tomatoey, not the chili sauce we’ve usually had with momos. It’s a preference over taste, perhaps.
Chicken Chowmein: The noodles had Nepalese spices with hints of soy sauce and vinegar. The noodles were doused in chili flakes, were cooked well, but the chicken was inedible. Very chewy, rubbery, and not cooked in some bites. We called the waitress to let her know and she flatly remarked that it’s the same chicken as butter chicken. Are we to read this as two dishes that are inedible and nothing that can be done? She never said a word/asked for what could be done or apologized and walked away.
Not recommended if you are seeking ambiance, not recommended if you want friendly service, not recommended if you are looking for flavor. Himalayan Hut “peaks” disappointment.
