In Richard Wrangham's book, 'Catching Fire,' he wrote, “I believe the transformative moment that gave rise to the genus Homo, one of the great transitions in the history of life, stemmed from the control of fire and the advent of cooked meals…It changed our bodies, our brains, our use of time, and our social lives." This and more of Wrangham’s writings occurred to me repeatedly as I sat and laughed with family, raving repeatedly how the crisp, succulent flavor of their steaks was unlike anything they had previously experienced. I too, could feel the rush of dopamine, as the wealth of strategically charred flavors registered in my mind. All the while, the service was impeccable. Everyone from the host, to the servers, to the restaurant manager made sure that our evening was an unforgettable encounter with exceptional dining. My son’s 18th birthday will be something we will never forget, as for a couple of wonderful hours, Cinder House felt less like a house, and more like a home.
