Had the brunch. It was around 11 am. Food was cold. Deserts were undercooked, the bread pudding was slimy and cold. The sauce for the bread pudding was curdled. Told the manager. They stated because we hadn't said anything they gave us 15% off. It was absolutely terrible. We are from the area and remember when this was the place to go. Not anymore. We will not be back. Bass pro is a wonderful place but the restaurant (Hemingway's) is terrible. DO NOT EAT HERE!

We visited Hemingway’s for brunch with our family, including our 13-year-old who has Alpha-gal syndrome, a serious allergy caused by a tick bite that can trigger delayed, unpredictable reactions to mammal-derived products. Reactions can vary day to day and, in severe cases, can include anaphylaxis. Before ordering, we made the allergy very clear to our server and explained how serious it is. We asked detailed questions about food preparation, fryers, cross-contamination, and what items would be safe. We were explicitly told that the restaurant takes allergies very seriously, that the food would be safe, and we were given several options our child could eat — including items from the buffet. Based on this information, our 13-year-old ate from the buffet. Only after the meal was finished, a manager came to our table and informed us that the buffet is not Alpha-gal safe and that the information we were given by the server was incorrect. The manager then explained that none of their fryers are safe and that the food our child consumed should not have been recommended for someone with this allergy. We were left shocked and deeply concerned. While we understand that Alpha-gal can be a complex allergy, we did everything a family reasonably can do to protect our child: we communicated clearly, asked the right questions, and relied on the information provided by the staff. The failure here was not a lack of understanding on our part, but a breakdown in communication and knowledge about the restaurant’s own kitchen practices. If our child had experienced a severe reaction or gone into anaphylactic shock, the consequences could have been life-threatening. I rarely leave reviews and have great respect for how hard restaurant staff work. However, this situation was extremely serious and could have ended very differently. My hope in leaving this review is not to attack, but to urge Hemingway’s to improve allergy training, internal communication, and verification between servers and the kitchen before assuring guests that food is safe. Food allergies are not preferences — they are medical conditions. Clear, accurate communication can quite literally save lives.

Had my first opportunity to eat at Hemingway's located in the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield Missouri. I have to say the food was below average, we ordered blackened shrimp tacos and blackened mahi. It was not good the shrimp was not blackened it had a little bit of blackened seasoning sprinkled on it and the blackened mahi was dry and tasted kind of like shredded dry pork. The wait wasn't bad I got to say the waitress Simona was excellent. She even offered to return it and have it redone but I had no time for that. She did explain that they have a new cook and he is only 20 years old. Please I hope she does not get in trouble for saying that she was honest, she was very nice and when I told her no I do not have time, she offered to bring some sauce, she did we doused it with this sweet spicy sauce so it was edible and then paid our bill and left. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. We did not take it out on the server we tipped her very well and wished her a Merry Christmas.

Unique restaurant with pretty good food, but a little overpriced. Inside Springfield's Bass Pro flagship store is a slightly upscale restaurant and a few free, interesting museum features, including one with a wide variety of original guns and historic weapons - even some from films like the Outlaw Josie Wales, another museum is all about fishing, and another about the history and origin of Bass Pro Shops. Of note, the ceiling of much of this Bass Pro Shop is interestingly painted and decorated like you are staring up through the surface of a lake, from under the water. All the free museums are worth a visit, and in addition to any regular shopping at this well-known outfitter is the Hemingway's Blue Water Cafe. A variety of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, seafood, burgers, and drinks, the menu is sure to have something that appeals to each person in your party. I attended with a group of 15 people, and service was polite, but a little slower due to the number of folks in our group. Two people next to me split the Big Game Sampler with coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped duck poppers and elk sliders which I was told were all enjoyable. I ordered the Bison burger which on the menu stated is harvested from the buffalo that roam the hills of Dogwood Canyon. Made me feel a little odd eating it since they're kind of a rare animal. The burger was pretty bland even with cheddar, BBQ sauce, tomato, and onion. Restaurant was clean from tables, seating areas, restrooms, etc. It is well-maintained and is a neat experience to dine there. Behind the bar is a large fishtank with an assortment of fish swimming by. A little pricey, but a unique place for a meal in Springfield. Not a place to which I'd rush back soon.
