Stopped at the Dairy Queen around 8:15 PM with my family after leaving a quarterfinal basketball game in Dexter. We ordered two chicken strip baskets, two cheeseburgers, and a large fry.
For context, my husband and I have both worked fast food before, so we completely understand busy nights, staffing issues, and how hectic things can get.
While waiting in the drive-thru line, my daughter and I ran inside to use the restroom. When we came back out, our car still hadn’t even made it to the payment window yet, which already felt like a long wait.
After we paid, we could clearly see through the window that our two cheeseburgers and large fry had been sitting out of the warming area while several employees stood around joking and laughing. Meanwhile, the drive-thru line behind us kept growing. At that point we were already about 15 minutes into this stop.
Eventually we were asked to pull forward to spot #1 and wait even longer. When the food was finally brought out, the fries and burgers were cold and dry.
I don’t expect gourmet food from fast food, but I do expect it to at least be hot when it’s handed out. What was most frustrating was watching the food sit while there seemed to be no sense of urgency or management keeping things moving.
Fast food everywhere seems to be struggling lately, but this experience felt more like a lack of leadership than a busy night.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning to this location.
