Online ordering wasn’t working so I phoned the restaurant. I was told they could not take orders over the phone. I drove to the restaurant, arriving at 10:35am and was told I could not order lunch until 11am. It was all said with a smile, but absolutely no recognition of how ridiculous this is. Food is good but this is not the place for me.

I’m from the Bible Belt and my great grandmaw Johnnie made the best sausage gravy in the world. She passed in 2019 and I rarely, if ever, order it anywhere because I know it won’t compare. Except when I tried Hemma Hemma!!! They were super busy when we went for brunch (so expect a wait on the weekends) but the staff was super sweet and we were fine to wait on the comfy couches and check out their grab-and-go selection. I took a gamble and got the Waldo bowl and it literally brought a tear to my eye, the sausage gravy made me feel like I was back in Florida on the farm!! Our meal was super affordable ($60 for 2 entrees, a well dressed large yogurt bowl, a coffee, and a mimosa) and our server was incredibly attentive despite being really busy! The interior is also so beautiful, and the cocktails are creative (carrot cake cosmo wasn’t on my bingo card) and affordable. I’ve never written a review this long in my life but I’m here to say if you’re on the fence, GO! This is the first place I’ll take my family and friends when they come to visit me in KC. Perfect hangover cure and I napped like a a baby after this meal.

This is a cute place and staff was friendly. I ordered the California chicken sandwich as a wrap. It looked pretty but it was very bland. I think this was supposed to have cream cheese on it but I don’t think I got any and I didn’t say anything. French fries were hot and fine- nothing special.
My friend had grilled cheese and soup and said it was good.
This is like other places that want a generous tip for ringing up your order and bringing out your food. Pretty much how it works at fast food places that don’t expect a 20 percent tip.
I won’t return.

I’ve been to Hemma Hemma quite a few times and have generally had good experiences, but today was honestly disappointing.
I recently bought a house nearby and walked over to grab coffee, food, and get some work done. Since it was during the week and open seating, I sat at an empty four-top so I had a bit more space to work. I had already been there about an hour when it started to get busier, and I was asked to move downstairs because they needed the table.
I explained that I was in the middle of a meeting and asked if I could move once it wrapped up, or even just shift to the two-top right next to me, or combine tables to free up space, but none of those options were accommodated. The interaction also came across a bit curt, which just made the situation feel worse.
Over the weekend, we also tried to use a gift card a friend gave us and were told it was online-only. We didn’t make a big deal out of it and paid anyway, but combined with today, it just left a bad taste.
I’ve really liked this spot in the past, which is why this was so disappointing.

I went here on a Sunday for my friend's birthday. We had to wait about 45 minutes to be seated which the hostess was upfront about so I do not have complaints about that. Upon being seated, however, we waited about 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged. I think we were only acknowledged because I started making comments about leaving in ear shot of the waiter. I ordered a salmon toast which I was told was supposed to be phenomenal. I loved the salmon toast at Happy Gillis but this was shawdy at best. The toast was burnt, there was about a half pound of creme fraiche that I scraped mostly off (good but just too much), very tiny amount of salmon. Maybe they try to load up on the sauce to skim back on the protein? The egg was overcooked but the description does say "boiled" although salmon toast should usually be accompanied by a poached egg. No onions or tomatoes as accompaniments which would also be typical but not in the description. I ordered a side of breakfast potatoes and they were excellent. A sizable portion for $4. The bloody mary was also delicious and tasted homemade and not from a mix. I will go back but would try something different. Not a go to for a good salmon toast. I think they are too busy and do not have enough staff. I was just very much annoyed at being seated and then being ignored. The environment is also very noisy. It was my friend's birthday but we could not really even chat because it was a very loud environment. I am only giving the service a 2 instead of 0 because the people "seemed" nice when you could actually get one to talk to you.
