Waited forever for our drinks and even then, they brought 4 drinks separately one by one, 2 of them ended up being incorrect. The appetizer we received was not what we ordered. Then waited forever for our food (at least another 45 minutes). The food was barely warm and we had to reorder. In the end, we were there for dinner for about 2 1/2 hrs. On top of that, when I got my credit card bill 2 weeks later, the server had charged an extra $5 that showed up on my statement (which I disputed). I'll never return to this restaurant again which is sad, because I was anticipating this restaurant finally opening. The owners spent a ton of money on decorating the restaurant and I like the ambiance but if a restaurant/server EVER overcharges me that's a red flag.

I have been there 2 times once when they opened and tonight. The first time the food was very average Mexican food. Ecpeciallu for what is in St. Louis. We waiting years for this place to open. I came tonight and sat at the bar my friend order a glass of wine off the drink menu. We didn’t notice that there was no price. Well when I got the bill the little dessert glass of wine was $45.00! The cost of our whole bill. We went and looked and it was
The only thing on the drink menu that didn’t have a price. No one said anything that it was so expensive. The bartender did get us a $10 discount on it. But that’s unacceptable. We should have known and been able to decided if we wanted to spend that much on a small glass of wine. This was very disappointing.
I don’t know if I will be back .
DON’T GO HERE! Go to Tradicional 314 or Carretas or even Casa Juarez. This place gets a 0.5 rating at best.
1. Took 55 minutes to deliver ordinary, non-premium food
2. Manager knows to apologize but doesn’t know to handle timeliness. Tells us kitchen manager is on leave. Inexperience and bad hiring shows.
3. Ordered kids nachos - kids drink, side rice, chicken was forgotten
4. Inattentive server
5. Premium pricing for lower-than ordinary tasting food.
6. They don’t have an identity - ordinary mexican food - why not make up the loss in service with decent chips and salsa
7. This all points to ineffective leadership, bad internal messaging.
8. This restaurant must pause for 3-4 weeks, rethink why they should exist.
9. The chicken rice dish was made 20 minutes ahead. For that temperature, I could’ve eaten at home.
10. We were about to abandon the order when the food came. 47 min wait, 10 minutes to get appetizer, 55 minutes for entrees from the time of placing order. Ridiculous.

After waiting for so long for this gorgeous (and I do mean gorgeous) place to open, the food was a bit of a let down. In my opinion, the portions do not justify the prices. Everything is very spicy and the menu lacks many of the traditional meals offered by most local Mexican restaurants. You'll find no free chips and salsa, and with tax and tip, the margarittas are the price of a meal. Judging by the exquisite decor, with no detail missed, I am sure they likely need to charge more to cover all the supplies and labor. .. If you fancy a lot of spice, and fresh BBQ style meat that is super spiced and cooked to very well done, you might give it a try. The corn ribs are way over priced and nothing too special. The mushroom quesadilla was tasty but more of an appetzer size. Having said all this, the interior is so unique, it's worth the go, at least once. .. And if you are a breakfast person who likes eggs hot on the pallet, rather than the plate, this just may be your place. If you have GERD or reflux, this may not be your place. Happy eating!
While you never should go to a restaurant for the ambiance it is worth noting the interior of TMBH is gorgeous. Exceptionally well decorated, very comfortable seating, I just liked sitting there.
Okay, enough HGTV, on to the Food network.
For context my wife is Mexican and grew up in the Rio Grande Valley (IYKYK). She has very high standards for good Mexican food. A friend of ours who grew up in the same area told us about TMBH and we knew we had to try it. We were not disappointed.
Brunch on Saturday with brisket fajitas skillet, refried beans, and stuffed french toast with bacon (bacon was an add on). The brisket fell apart on the fork, the onions had so much flavor, the potatoes were the right crispy-soft.
Wife and I agree the salsa is darn near drinkable it is so good. I would like it a little spicier but that is personal preference not a restaurant problem.
The beans are not runny and instead have a thick weight to them that is exactly what my wife looks for. She was exceptionally happy there.
The french toast was well fried without getting heavy. I got the mango and pineapple compotes which were good. The bacon is... bacon.
If I had an issue with anything I thought the coffee was weak but I am a "spoon stands up in the cup" kind of coffee drinker so take that for what you will.
Can't wait to go back for the lunch/dinner menu.
