The Aster Cafe is located under the trees on the prettiest street in Minneapolis. Overlooking the mighty Mississippi river and the skyline of the city, the Aster is a candle-lit restaurant-bar with a sweet European patio. Live music, great brunches, craft beers and cocktails, and a thoughtful wine list add up to City Pages calling us the “best place to go on a first date”. Our menu is fresh (no deep fryers!) and inventive. We also have lovely spaces for events and weddings, which you can check out by contacting our Event Goddess. So get down here!

We were seated and found the mood to be set with tapered candles, a complimentary half glass of champagne, and… club music? The atmosphere would have you expecting something in the vein of soft jazz or instrumental, but my valentine and I found that we were nearly unable to communicate with each other over the thumping bass and rhythm that we assume was chosen at random by some staff member. I will for the record state that we are both under the age of 25 with no hearing conditions. We did not receive one of the items we ordered (although we also were not charged for said item) and dinner was okay, though we were not asked how we’d like the steak and it came out incredibly rare which suited one of our tastes, at least. All in all, it could’ve been a very pleasant experience if the audio had matched the visual ambiance. We probably will return, but only when they are hosting live music. Conversation enjoyers, beware!

We parked on the street, but next time we will use the ramp. We were not disappointed. The place has a cool laid-back vibe, and the High 48s were awesome as always. Our server was fantastic and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back, next time, I want to see Patty and the Buttons.
