If it were possible to give zero stars, I would do so without hesitation. Unfortunately, that option is unavailable, so one star will have to suffice.
My dear friend and I visited this Chipotle while passing through town, and I am making a sincere effort to phrase this politely; however, I can confidently say I have never felt so disregarded, disrespected, and dismissed as a paying customer. As someone who currently works in customer service, it is genuinely devastating to say how upsetting this experience was, and I feel compelled to make it known both to the staff at this location and to future diners.
Before writing this review, I took the time to read several others and was disheartened, though not surprised, to discover that I am far from the first individual to experience such unfair, unreasonable, and frankly disrespectful treatment here.
We arrived a few hours before closing (around 6:00 PM), with no unusual requests or expectations. Our goal was simple: two bowls and a quick departure. I ordered a chicken bowl with guacamole, while my friend, who this review is largely dedicated to, ordered a bowl with sofritas. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Unfortunately, the sofritas were running low, and instead of preparing a fresh batch or offering a reasonable portion, the employee scraped the very bottom of the container and provided what can only be described as a quarter of a spoonful, after consulting with a shorter woman standing beside him. It was genuinely baffling. One can only wonder whether this is the portion they would serve themselves, all while assuring us that it was “fine.”
At the register, I politely raised the issue, as it seemed unfair that we were paying the same price for drastically different portions. I simply asked, “Sorry to ask, but I barely received any protein in my bowl, would it be possible to get a little extra?” The cashier appeared unsure how to proceed and sought assistance.
At this point, the same shorter woman intervened, rudely demanding to know what the “problem” was. After hearing the explanation, she proceeded to look my friend up and down and, without provocation, began verbally targeting her. My friend, who was simply trying to pay, was bizarrely accused of “laughing at the situation,” which was entirely untrue and deeply inappropriate.
Eventually, someone who identified himself as the general manager approached. My friend calmly restated the exact same request I had made earlier. He agreed to help and informed us there would be a short wait, which we were more than willing to accommodate.
Despite this, the same woman remained nearby, glaring at us, and felt the need to rudely reiterate, yet again, that the wait would be 5–10 minutes. I politely acknowledged this, at which point she stormed off.
We waited briefly and were called back once things became busy. The wait itself was never the issue. When the general manager handed us the food, I thanked him sincerely, as the situation finally seemed resolved. Unfortunately, that is when he chose to inform us that he and his “team” did not appreciate us “causing a scene” and claimed that what we had requested was a seasonal special, a statement that was particularly confusing, given that sofritas are available year-round. He then curtly dismissed us.
In conclusion, the way my friend and I were treated, publicly and unnecessarily, was an absolute disgrace. I have never been made to feel so humiliated over such a trivial and reasonable request. It was only 6:00 PM, and we simply wanted dinner. Instead, we left feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and genuinely upset.
I sincerely hope management addresses this behavior, because no customer should leave a restaurant feeling this way.
