A Big Drop in Quality at the Crooks & 14 Mile Dunkin’
Dunkin’ Donuts has always been nostalgic for me. Growing up, it was a regular stop when my mom and I were out running errands, and the donuts were always fresh, flavorful, and plentiful. Even after the location moved to Crooks and 14 Mile, things stayed pretty solid for a while. Sadly, that’s no longer the case.
Our most recent visit to the Crooks & 14 Mile location was extremely disappointing. My son ordered a donut that was clearly not fresh—likely a day or two old. It was slightly hard, tasted strange, and had an odd, almost fermented sugar flavor. The frosting was even worse: rock hard, like it had been sitting out far too long.
The selection was also noticeably lacking. About half of the usual donut options were missing—no peanut donuts, no coconut donuts, and several other staples. When I asked, I was told they only make those “sometimes.” I ordered a blueberry cake donut instead, which tasted okay, but it was oddly thin—full-sized around, yet flat and skimpy compared to what a cake donut should be.
On top of that, the wake-up wraps we ordered were basically inedible. They were burned to a crisp, and one of them was folded completely wrong, with over half the wrap uneven and awkwardly tucked. The cheese had turned into a hard, stuck-on slab that had to be peeled off, and the tortilla itself was so overcooked it felt more like a brittle, thin pizza crust than a wrap.
At first, I wondered if this was just how Dunkin’ Donuts does things now. But that idea fell apart after visiting the Dunkin’ Donuts at 16 Mile and Dequindre. That location is exactly how Dunkin’ should be: thick, solid donuts, full flavor selection, everything fresh, and wake-up wraps made properly. The blueberry cake donut there is plump and satisfying, and classics like coconut and peanut donuts are always available.
Because of that comparison, it’s hard not to feel like the Crooks & 14 Mile location has seriously gone downhill, possibly cutting corners on both quality and preparation. Unfortunately, I’d recommend steering clear of this location and going out of your way to one that still lives up to the Dunkin’ Donuts name.
