I had a really disappointing experience at Panera Bread, largely due to the manager, Ira.
From the start, things felt off. The cashier seemed inexperienced, and it took much longer than expected to place a very simple order—three of us ordered the same meal and one frozen strawberry lemonade. The total didn’t seem right, but I was reassured it was correct. After paying and reviewing the receipt, I realized the drink had been entered incorrectly at nearly double the price. I had to go back to fix it and request a refund for the difference.
After sitting down for about 8 minutes, we realized we never received a buzzer, so I had to go back again. Shortly after, I heard our frozen drink being called. When I picked it up, it was already melted as if it had been sitting out. When I politely asked about it, Ira immediately responded defensively, insisted it had just been made, and mentioned calling it out earlier. He then made a comment under his breath. When I addressed that I didn’t appreciate it, he continued with sarcastic remarks and had a clearly rude attitude.
I told him the hostility was unnecessary, and instead of de-escalating, he mocked me. At that point, we decided we didn’t want to stay. I approached him again to request a full refund and to cancel the rest of our order. He continued making rude, unnecessary comments and even walked away mid-conversation. I had to ask another employee to have him come back to the register.
When he finally returned, I calmly explained I just wanted a refund and would even return the drink. Despite that, he continued with the sarcastic and unprofessional behavior. It got to the point where my husband had to step in and ask him to just complete the refund so we could leave.
I don’t know what the issue was, but Ira’s behavior was completely inappropriate for someone in a management position. Customer service should never be handled this way. This experience was frustrating from start to finish and reflects very poorly on this location.
I would strongly suggest going to a different location after our experience.
