Came here for the first time on Wednesday 11/12 for lunch. We were a little nervous initially as we were the only people in the restaurant when it opened. The food was delicious! I had perch, yams and collards; only issue for me is that the perch (2 small pieces) was too little for my appetite. Yams were delectable and greens were delicious. The young woman who took care of us was very sweet natured and attentive.

When I tell you they cook DOWN! And the catering option is on point and professional. They were able to handle TWO emergency board meetings with Grace & taste. Well done.

The place is open and spacious. Clean and a welcoming atmosphere. The waitstaff was attentive and polite. The food....the catfish fritters are tasty and we're fresh. I had baked chicken with two sides and an extra side. The chicken was good, seemed a bit small. The dressing tasted like they added a pinch of sugar, not my thing. The Mac was cheesy but not flavorful which was odd. The greens were ok. They had alot of stems and a bit sweet for my taste. Overall, it was ok. Would I go again? Probably not. The entire entree just lacked "soul". Something in the taste was missing.

Detroit Soul was surprisingly delicious. This was my first visit and it won't be my last! The restaurant was very clean, stylish, and the staff was friendly. All of my favorites were prepared well - just like home ( without the mess). I had the Catfish dinner with Mac&cheese, dressing, greens, and yams! Needless to say, I was hungry and Detroit Soul did not disappoint! SH

Detroit Soul is aptly named to embody the soul of the city. The food, friendliness, and atmosphere were certainly a blessing to my soul. When you are in the D, make your way to the Eastside to partake of the gem of a restaurant.
