  The Hannaford Price Manipulation scandal is real. As reported in January 2026 Hannaford charges roughly 25% higher prices in certain lower-income, rural Maine locations compared to wealthier areas. Take this as an example: As of 4/30/2026, Hannaford in Ellsworth, ME charges $4.95 for a 6.7oz can of Bar Harbor Boneless Skinless Smoked Sardine Fillets while the Portland Hannaford only charges $3.40 for the exact same product. A $1.55 increase in a town that makes significantly less money on average is forced to pay extra. Morally corrupt? Hidden political agenda? The Ellsworth Hannaford is also 159 miles closer to Bar Harbor Foods compared to the Portland location. The Hannaford chain cites "higher transportation costs for far-flung locations" but this isn't the case. See attached screenshots between the two location's websites.

  Usually my go to store but... at self checkout I was quickly scanning my items and one item was close but didn't scan, unknown to me. Then the screen says store assistance needed and they kindly explained that the camera caught a package that didn't scan. I'm creeped out that the new cameras are AI security. Mistakes happen, however I don't want to be surveilled at this level. Also, there is the issue of flagrant shrinkflation, including the store brand.
