The store itself is fine. But the checkout process is always a problem. The self checkouts glitch frequently and require assistance. Cashiers in the regular checkout lines don't bother to bag the groceries so the process takes twice as long while the cashier just stands there.

11/6/2025 - Disaster at the Safeway checkout counter.
I shopped the store using the digital on-line cart from my phone. I accumulated 14 items in my shopping cart. I saw an on-line add for Fresh Jalapeno peppers for $0.08 each. I checked with customer service rep and he validated the price of 8 cent each. I found this especially odd since the shelf price was 33 cents each not 8 cents. The customer service rep told me to let him know should I have a problem at the checkout counter.
The problem:
The checkout person challenged me on the price of the jalapenos peppers. I requested the customer service rep be called, but apparently he was on break. As a result, the checkout person invalidated my shopping cart so I could pay for the remaining items in my on-line cart. I asked her why she did that, and she replied, "There is a line forming and she can't keep them waiting".
I dumped the items I had bagged on to the checkout counter, and decided to leave the store. I was furious that I had wasted my time in the store. Then I reconsidered, I asked to speak to the manager. He began ringing them up the items, including cough medicine ($14.99) that I did know he charged my for since I did not select it in my chart. He clear my cart and I paid for it.
Upon bagging my cart items again, I came across the cough medicine and told the manager it was not mine. He replied that I had already paid for it. Wow! I just wanted to leave the store, so I left to spare me any more time to go through the process of having my debit card credited for the $14.99.
Giant is just a little further down the street. I am thinking (hoping) they are more efficient and conscience of their customers.

Certain employees are very nice and helpful. It is obvious store management tends to neglect certain sections though 🙁

I only went there to use the Coinstar, because it's efficient. I got my money right away from the customer service station without rudeness.
