This is by far one of the worst Safeway's I been to. I live right across the street, but I would rather drive 4 miles down the street to go to Giant. It's like night and day, the customer service desk at Safeway is horrible. I only go to this store only if it's an emergency my main issue is some of the people that works at the counter.

This store has gone downhill. They permanently locked the northern doors so there's only one way in. No more baskets, only carts if you are lucky enough to find one that works. Homeless guy in the bread aisle eating whatever he wants and nobody says anything. Only two cashiers. Most people waiting in long long lines just to do self checkout. And don't get me started on the prices. The newer alternative grocery stores are far better.

Disappointing Experience at Safeway Greenbelt – Poor Customer Service and Accountability I recently visited the Safeway in Greenbelt to cash a money order at the Western Union counter located inside the store. After waiting for over a minute while two staff members behind the counter were occupied with other tasks, I was told by an older male Safeway employee that "Safeway doesn't cash money orders." I explained that I understood Safeway’s policy, but this was a Western Union counter—and Western Union had confirmed that their locations do cash money orders. His response was dismissive and rude: "They told you wrong." Feeling unheard and disrespected, I called the store to speak with a manager. It took nearly 90 seconds into the call before the person revealed she was the Frontline Manager and informed me I’d need to call back on Monday to speak with a “Manager.” This lack of transparency and readiness to assist was deeply frustrating. The overall experience reflected a troubling lack of customer service training, direct engagement, and staff accountability. The behavior at the customer service counter was unprofessional and unwelcoming—making it clear that customer concerns are not a priority at this location. It’s disheartening to see this level of service from a brand that once held a strong reputation in our community. I hope Safeway takes this feedback seriously and invests in better training and accountability measures. As it stands, I won’t be returning to this location.

I visited this Safeway today and had a small issue at checkout due to a payment option problem. I spoke with customer service for about three minutes and kindly asked the store clerk if she could hold my items and close out the order on the kiosk. She agreed, but when I returned, she didn’t seem to know where the items went and later told me they had been put back. I have knee issues, so I wasn’t able to walk around the store to gather the items again. Unfortunately, I had to leave without completing my purchase. It was disappointing to see such a lack of care and follow-through, especially when a little extra attention could have made a big difference. It feels like genuine customer service is becoming a lost art.

This store is a no go. There were no employees working today apparently. Two elder women needed help reaching something, said they couldn't find a single worker. As I thought about it neither did I see any. Only stockers from outside companies. Registers all closed. Then one boy who probably was due for a break closed his register after seeing me put my big basket in line. (Black with locks short chunky around 1pm-2pm) After there was no one else present, me and one other person can vouch no one was at the register right beside him, which he could clearly see. A latino boy ( pimples) pops up but not at the register, he was standing in the isle by the register and hadn't asked if we needed help as he was on his phone. Mind you they had on two different color shirts. We don't know if he works there or not. Black guy walks out of his cubicle and hears me and the other older lady confused as to who would help us and rudely says, " that register is open right there!" as if the guy had been there the whole time let alone communicated he was ready to service us. Oh and when he did he made this nasty face and made some snarky comment under his breathe. Oh and the seafood section has to have gotten freezer burn like 20 times to look like that. Completely inedible and whoever manages that section should be replaced or relocated to an easier department. Everything was dry, frozen, and shrunk.
