  El Afrik is where the vibe is at! It’s about time Frederick had an African lounge like this. El Afrik is the perfect spot to enjoy amazing food, meet great people, and have a fantastic time on the weekend. On the weekend there is a live DJ. Come for the delicious food and stay for the vibes! We always have an amazing time whenever we visit. My favorite dishes are the suya and fried plantains as appetizers, and the spinach stew with yams—absolutely delicious! You won’t regret it.

  I’m a snob when it comes to food, especially Ghanaian food, as the son of a certified nutritionist and caterer. I make it a point to critique those who purport to know or believe they can recreate dishes from home, with the level of authenticity it deserves… Most fall short… El-Afrik excels… EL AFRIK Cuisine & Bar is a new Ghanian inspired restaurant and at first glace upon walking in, there is a cozy and sleek yet grown and sexy vibe that radiates. From start to finish, everything is delicious. The space has a fashionable vibe, with the AfroBeats to High life classics subtly echoing in the background, adding to the overall atmosphere without being overpowering. What really sets El-Afrik apart is the staff. They were professional, personable, and clearly understood not just the menu, but the broader vision and culture of the restaurant. Every single dish is flavorful, well-prepared, and memorable, especially their soups and of course, its jollof… it’s the kind of restaurant you look forward to returning to… I continue to recommend El-Afrik to anyone who will listen, seeking good food, awesome people, and an experience in Frederick, MD and its environs.

  Casual Review: El Afrik Cuisine & Bar If you’re looking for something different in Frederick, El Afrik Cuisine & Bar is a great spot to check out. The vibe is lively, with Afro-inspired décor and music that makes the place feel warm and welcoming. The food is the real star here. I tried the jollof rice and suya, and both were packed with flavor — smoky, spicy, and just the right amount of heat. Portions are generous, so come hungry. They also have great grilled fish and plantains that pair perfectly with the beans. Service was friendly and relaxed. The staff were happy to explain dishes if you’re new to African cuisine, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, El Afrik is a fun spot to hang out with friends or enjoy a casual night out.

The menu hits all the classics — Fufu, Banku, Wakye, Peanut Butter Soup, Okro Stew, plus a full lineup of other Ghanaian and West African favorites. Every bite is flavorful, comforting, and made with love. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always ready to recommend something new. Whether you’re craving home‑cooked comfort or trying something new, EL AFRIK delivers an unforgettable experience. Definitely a must‑visit in Frederick!

  I ordered take out via the website 1/1/2026 for a 9PM pickup. I arrived early. The problem started with them not being open New Year’s Day and orders still being able to be placed. I figured it would be taken care of after a phone call in the following day. I called, as I started to explain what happened the woman on the other end told me what I ordered and I said yes. I would just like the charge reversed since you were closed but still charged my card. She said she needed to talk to the manager. That’s understandable. The manager wasn’t there and nobody knew when she would be in. She told me I need to just dispute the charge with my bank or grub hub. I reminded her I ordered via their website (I asked if the orders go through grub hub but she didn’t know. I haven’t used grub hub in many years.) She called me back and said her manager told me to contact grub hub and gave me this really long ID number and said I could just dispute it with my bank. I told her she was making it really difficult for me to recover the $33.25 they took from me on a day they were closed without giving what I paid for. The woman said her boss doesn’t want to refund me and then I dispute with my bank and get the money again. The employee seemed very angry and upset and even more so than me when I’m the one who had money taken and they want to basically make sure I don’t take advantage and make it difficult for me to recover what they wrongfully took without delivering the service/food I paid for. They acknowledged this and said it won’t happen again. I told them they need to make sure it doesn’t happen and that they don’t take peoples money when they are closed. I wish I used grub hub because they automatically refund you without a song and a dance. I’ve spent several hundred dollars here via carry out and the food is good. I will not spend another penny here since they are exercising such poor customer service. I’ve NEVER experienced anything like this. When I called my bank, the woman could not believe what I was told by the restaurant. I still can’t. The dispute is already in the works with my bank. I won’t patronize here ever again. EDIT ADDED I ordered from your website. Now if your website uses grubhub for its orders. I as a customer would not know that and it did not make sense for me to reach out to them. You were closed and I didn’t get the food….okay. The problem is you’re making it so difficult to give me back my money. I am not asking for something for free. You are raking the liberty to keep my money and going about this in an unnecessary fashion. You should be apologizing that you just won’t refund my money. When I received a call back on Friday, the woman said I just have to claim a dispute. But why? You KNOW you took money without rendering services. I’m baffled that you want to be put out there as holding money that’s not rightfully yours. You’re not denying it. I will attach the picture that shows I ordered it from your website. Note that there’s a platform fee. I just went to grubhub and looked for you and there’s no menu so there goes that grubhub theory.
