A gem of Annapolis!
Great food, awesome selection of wines, friendly and professional service, and a lovely view to the bay; all of this under the roof of this excellence of a restaurant. I had the shellfish linguini and the plate came with a generous and delicious variety of muscles, clams, and lobster. Oh, try their chocolate lava cake too!
I went to Chart House for an evening out with a friend, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, dim, moody lighting, high ceilings, and a beautiful view of the water. It feels very upscale, yet comfortable and inviting, with a warm, almost homelike atmosphere rather than anything stiff or formal.
What truly stood out was the service. Our waitress, Tiaa, along with Ryan who was shadowing her, provided the best service I’ve ever experienced from a wait staff. Their pacing was exceptional, they gave us time to think through the menu, walked us through options without rushing, kept us informed about when food was coming, and struck the perfect balance between attentiveness and space. On top of that, they were genuinely great conversationalists, which made the entire evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. The service elevated the whole experience and is the reason I would return.
We visited Chart House Prime to celebrate our anniversary, and overall it turned into a wonderful experience. Upon arrival, we were kindly asked to wait a few minutes while our table was prepared. Prior to our reservation, I had requested a window seat with a sea view through the booking app. Initially, we were told that seating arrangements were strict, which was a bit confusing, especially since the window tables appeared available.
Shortly after being seated, the manager Josh came by to check on us. I explained that it was our anniversary and mentioned the window seating request. Josh immediately took the time to listen, acknowledged the request, and ensured we were moved to a beautiful window table. From that moment on, everything flowed perfectly.
Josh went above and beyond to make sure our anniversary dinner was special. The hospitality was outstanding, the food was excellent, and the overall atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. His professionalism and genuine care truly elevated the entire experience.
10/10 experience. Highly recommended, and we cannot wait to come back again
This Chart House location, and its counterpart in Longboat Key, Florida, seem like Hollywood movie sets: both offer beautiful settings, but nothing worthwhile inside.
Had a pretty lousy experience there this past weekend for a holiday dinner with friends.
My wife had made reservations back in October for a four-top with longtime friends of ours. The reservations were made two months in advance because it was the evening of the Annapolis Boat Light Parade, and the location is a good vantage spot.
We arrived early and checked in at the desk. When it was time for our reservation, we went back to the desk only to find several unhappy parties all waiting for their reservations. None of the previous customers were leaving because of the parade. Management apparently was not allowed to politely encourage these previous diners to move along (maybe to the bar?) even those who had paid and were completely finished.
So after a long wait, we were finally sat, not at a window as requested two months prior, and not even as a four-top. We were sat as two 2-tops in the middle of the room with a large gas fireplace between us, which made conversation with our friends impossible. They told us it would get us "fed faster". The message was clear: if you want to dinner anytime soon, this is the best you're gonna get, pal.
As my back was to the windows, I moved my chair to the side to be able to see at least some of the Xmas light boats. And I was told by a manager that I needed to move my seat back as I was now in the aisle. Apparently the same management that couldn't move the previous parties along and kept dozens of people waiting had no problem asking me to move.
It was a tragedy of errors from there. I watched a tray of dinners for four people get dropped at a serving stand and then sit there for a good five minutes as employee after employee walked by it (those crab cakes looked good too). We also seemed to be seated at the intersection where management surveys the room and heard every disparaging comment they made to the serving staff about the night. Then there was a collision between two employees right behind my wife where a serving tray barely missed landing on her.
We resorted to periodically visiting our friends' table throughout the meal, and vice versa, in order to have SOME conversation with them. Definitely NOT the fun, holiday evening we were anticipating.
But really, it's OUR fault; we knew better and still went back again.
My wife and I had been there earlier this year for a quick drink and app before a dinner reservation across the street. It was late afternoon on a Saturday and wasn't busy, but our oyster appetizer still took a half hour to come out, and when it did, it was wrong. When we were able to flag down the server he said "Yeah I THOUGHT that looked wrong." (So why didn't you check it before bringing it?). 20 minutes later, the correct one arrived. And then he disappeared so we had to track down our bill in order to make our dinner reservation on time. It shouldn't take an hour for two cocktails and an app.
IMO, Chart House is simply a tourist spot with a great view of the downtown Annapolis waterfront, and that's about it. The churn and burn experience is nowhere near worth the premium pricetag. Never again.
UPDATE: even after spelling out the issues above, the restaurant could still only manage the canned generic response below. Maybe next time at least try using AI. Sooooo weak.
Read some of the recent reviews that were less than stellar. Tonight when we dined on a weekday night at Chart House, I am pleased to say that everything was well executed. Our first visit to this establishment for a belated birthday meal. Whitney was our waiter, she was knowledgeable and answered the questions we had about the menu. My husband had the onion baked oysters, I had the crispy escargot followed by the beet salad (without the radish as I requested they be omitted). The baked oysters (6 medium sized) were rich, flavorful, fresh, and tasty. I am a fan of Oysters Rockefeller and this version was as good if not better than that! The crispy escargot each served in a mushroom cap were surprisingly good. I had only enjoyed the escargot served in shells with garlic and butter in the past and this presentation was unique and pleasing. I love beets, and the beet salad, goat cheese, and thin crispy toast was completely delicious. I enjoyed it thoroughly. For our entrees, my husband had the whole Branzino fish served with fresh vegetables, a large serving. Being experienced with eating fish with bones he enjoyed it, I had a taste and the texture was soft and tender . I had the Rockfish and Crab with asparagus spears and a side of Lobster Risotto. The Rockfish was prepared perfectly, the asparagus spears super tender and the risotto did not disappoint. For dessert we shared the chocolate lava cake which we ordered at the beginning to allow for the 30 minutes that we read was needed. It was as described and we would recommend it. The entire evening was pleasant, the serving pace was perfect, the assistant manager stopped by and chatted with us, made us feel welcome. The view out of the large windows over the water with the reflected lights added to the lovely setting. Would recommend and make an effort to return in the future. Well done!
