  This was our first time visiting the state and main that we’ve been wanting to check out since it’s opened. I had such a great experience thanks to our server Amanda. From the moment we sat down, they were attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcome without being overbearing. They knew the menu really well and gave great recommendations that ended up being spot on. What stood out the most was how they handled everything so smoothly, even when it got busy, they stayed calm, organized, and made sure we had everything we needed. Our drinks were always refilled, the timing of the food was perfect, and they checked in just the right amount. You can tell they really care about providing good service. It made the whole experience that much better, and I’d definitely come back because of them. Thank you Amanda for the incredible service. We will be back and hope to be served by Amanda again.

  -Not worth it- Papa says he will never be back and the whole family agrees. They booked us into the lounge without asking us if everyone was of age. We ended up having to wait longer for a table. Service wasn’t great very slow. Nice booth. Horrible lighting I couldn’t even read the menu. Water was warm and the only time we got cold water until we ended up leaving. Too many tvs and ruined the vibe. The grilled cheese burger wasn’t what it describes it is grilled bread and non melted Kraft cheese slices. The pretzel and beer cheese dip is not great. The best thing to get Bangkok bowl something like that very flavourful but still greasy. Wouldn’t recommend and don’t understand the “hype”

  I visited the empress restaurant for the first time for lunch April 11th and was charged for wine I never ordered for 10.75 plus tax! I didn’t realize until later in the evening when I checked my receipt that i was charged so my advise is check your bill!

  Had dinner for two not sure why I was charged an automatic 10% gratuity on my bill and if that was necessary not sure why it wasn’t told to me before I ordered , I have no problem tipping what I do have a problem with being charged extra for no reason the bar was completely empty I was their only customer when. I ordered

  Hello there! I visited State & Main at Kildonan Place on Saturday March 28th 2026. I don't get out there often, but it's always a treat. First, the hospitality. My buddy and I instantly felt welcome. A number of staff took great care of us, including Lauren. We sat at the bar, and my buddy said 'it genuinely feels like they care about us'. That might sound stupid, but how many times have you gone to a place where you felt like an imposition? Not at State and Main! Second, the food. THE GRILLED CHEESEBURGER. I've had it a couple of times, including this time, and it is delicious. DELICIOUS. Their fries are excellent. The poutine is fantastic. Third, the bartop. This will sound silly to some, but I prefer to sit at the bar. It has a tonne of room, there's a nice foam arm rest which no one else has, there's a huge footrest which other restaurants should mimic... AND... I like how big the bar is. There's roughly two feet from where I sit to the other side of the bar. I could be reading too much into this, but that feels like it gives the staff an extra bit of safety in case someone sitting at the bar gets out of hand. And it's also quite comfy for me to have all that room! Fourth, the work ethic. EVERYONE in there was working hard non-stop. No one was phoning it in. As someone who worked in a restaurant once upon a time, I respect hard work and it made me happier about where I chose to sit down for a beer and a burger. Fifth and final, lots of TVs but they weren't invasive. It was fun to watch the Jets win their game, and watch the Maple Leafs lose their game LOL LOL LOL LOLOLOLOLOLOL stupid Leafs. Terrific experience overall. Go to State & Main!
