February 28,2026- We visited Montana's to celebrate my daughter’s 13th birthday — a very special milestone as she officially became a teenager. I had been there before with a friend and had a wonderful experience. The food and service were both excellent, which is why I chose this restaurant to celebrate such an important day. I truly wanted my daughter to enjoy the same great service and food that I had previously experienced. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different. While the food was still very good, the service was extremely disappointing. Our server, Vansh, was lackluster from the beginning and seemed disengaged. I had mentioned that it was my daughter’s birthday, yet he never acknowledged it in any meaningful way. Throughout the evening, I observed multiple other birthday celebrations where guests were enthusiastically sung to by staff and given the Montana’s birthday recognition. When I politely asked whether my daughter could also be sung to, Vansh said he would return — but he only came back briefly with a sign and quickly left again. When I followed up, the response was silence. I chose to let it go because my daughter said it was okay, and I didn’t want to cause a scene or ruin her evening further so I asked if it was ok to take a photo with my phone which he obliged. I approached him after the bills was paid to express my concern. I was waved aside and told he needed to attend to other guests who had arrived after us. At that point, I felt dismissed and disrespected. I had my children with me and it was only proper to show my kids how to be respectful to others and speak up when they feel disrespected. I do not make allegations lightly, and I am not someone who “plays the race card.” I don't write reviews either I just choose to move on. However, as a person of color, the contrast between how other tables were treated and how we were treated was noticeable and deeply hurtful hence my review. It left me questioning whether the level of service we received was influenced by an individual bias like i mentioned, i had been to St. Vital location before and enjoyed my time. However, no family celebrating a child’s birthday should leave feeling unwelcome or marginalized. I did speak with the manager, who apologized after the server walked away mid-conversation. While I appreciate the apology, the damage to what should have been a joyful memory had already been done. This was meant to be a milestone celebration for my daughter entering her teenage years. Instead, it became a disappointing experience that left a lasting negative impression. I hope this matter is taken seriously and addressed appropriately to ensure that all guests — regardless of race or background — are treated with equal respect and warmth. Thank you.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with Montana's in St. Vital, following our recent visit on February 16, 2026, to celebrate my birthday, a cherished family tradition. For the first time, I was asked to show my ID to verify that I had a birthday that week, which felt utterly absurd given our history of spending over $100 during our visits. When I asked to speak with the manager, she mentioned that they had seen us celebrating birthdays multiple times there, so now they needed proof. the reason for that is because we celebrate all our birthdays there so yes they have seen us four times in four months. After all, our birthdays follow. I couldn't help but wonder if this scrutiny was applied because we're a family of color, especially when we saw other birthday celebrations occurring around us without similar requests. It was frustrating to think that our loyalty and joy had been questioned. I did show my ID to clear the doubt, but did not want anything to do with the celebrating after our server and the manager made us feel we were there to take advantage of the dessert they offer birthday celebrants after spending more than $130 for the night Our daughter was particularly looking forward to the staff singing the birthday song for her dad, a highlight of our celebrations, but that moment was taken from us. This experience, instead of being joyous, ended up feeling disheartening and undervalued. Montana's should reflect on how their policies can affect loyal customers. It’s disappointing to see such a wonderful community spirit overshadowed by doubt. I hope that in the future, they foster a more welcoming atmosphere for all families celebrating life’s special moments.
