My husband and I went out to eat at Mastro's for our anniversary this past weekend and we had a very disappointing experience. I will start by saying I am not one to write negative reviews but with how much went wrong and how it was handled, I couldn't not write a review.
We got seated at our table (in the rear of the restaurant jammed up against a wall) and I went to use the bathroom. When I went to wash my hands, there were no hand towels in the bathroom and no hand dryer available. Not a big deal, I mentioned it to a served as a I walked back to my table and he was very apologetic and even brought me some hand towels to my table after the fact which was very nice but unnecessary at that point. We ordered drinks next and I ordered a Madras. When it came it was 95% vodka with a splash of juice and so strong I couldn't drink it. I asked the server to have the bartender make it with more juice in a larger glass which they did but it was still too strong to drink and sat untouched on our table. Its also important to note that the tiny 2 person table that we are seated at is so small that every time a serve comes over with a drink or bread etc, they have to rearrange half of the table because there is no room for anything.
Our appetizers were delicious! The shrimp cocktail was excellent and the burrata salad was good. We ordered a 22oz Ribeye and an 18oz bone in filet for our dinners as well as the mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes. The Mac and cheese was very good but the potatoes were disappointing. My husband had eaten at the Mastro's in DC recently and loved the potatoes so he was disappointed that they were different here. Here is where things take a turn. Our steaks came out and mine was tiny. It was quickly discovered that I was accidentally give an 8 oz filet instead of the 18oz filet that I ordered. The server came over and scooped the steak off my plate and told me that they would fix it and bring me the correct steak but that it will take some time to cook. Obviously I understood this and thankfully, my husband I had planned to share the ribeye and the filet anyway. About 10 minutes later, a different server brings out the correct 18oz bone in filet. It is about 3inchest thick and looks delicious except when I cut into it, it was rare. A true, cold red center, rare. And well, I ordered my steak medium. Now I understand that this steak was rushed out of the kitchen because of the error but this is a $91 steak. Once I cut into it and saw that it was rare, I then sat at my seat and looked around for my server for 15 minutes before he finally came back to check on me. I told him that it was undercooked and he brought it back to the kitchen where it was cooked again (after resting on my plate for 15 minutes). 10 minutes later I am brought a mangled overcooked filet that I have no appetite for.
Our server comes out after our dinners are cleared and packed to take home and says that due to the error, they are going to bring us dessert. He doesn't bring us a dessert menu or give us any choice, he just brings out a massive plate that has 3 FULL SIZED desserts on it and says Happy Anniversary on the plate. 2 of the three desserts are covered in ice cream so they can't even be brought home. Not to mention, we didn't get to pick any of them. We ate a few bites of each and then left behind a massive waste of dessert that we didn't ask for and couldn't even save for later.
We get our check and see that $17 has been removed from our bill for our "Anniversary" and $16 has been removed due to the server error. This left us still paying $384 before tip for a meal that was a disaster from beginning to end. Safe to say, we won't be recommending this place to anyone given how little they cared about our experience.

Recently went out there for a dinner with our team. There was a slight incident that occurred but Fabiola was quick to respond and right the situation and it was flawless. Hats off to the great friendly and professional staff and delicious food. Would definitely go back!

Terrible service at all points, including afterward when I spoke to Val the manager. I dined solo for my birthday. VERY SLOW service even though the restaurant was basically empty. It took 30 mins before I got a drink. I couldn’t have the fish preparation I wanted because apparently my allergen was in the seasoning - something that’s never been an issue for me before in all my years of ordering foods with that seasoning blend. But ok fine. It took about another 20-30 minutes for food to arrive and the fish was not worth the nearly hour wait. It wasn’t buttery or flaky, but thick and chewy. Not great. Icing on the cake was that I waited nearly TWENTY MINUTES for the waiter (who was actually a bartender) to take my payment. That is asinine. I got dessert comped as it was my birthday which was nice, but overall the entire dining experience was lackluster for the supposed reputation of Maestro’s.
I called a couple of days later to relay my experience since I was reached out to first by the restaurant from someone who said they hoped I had a good dining experience. I did not, so I returned the call to let the team know. I got connected with manager Val who was awful to talk to. He would not stop interrupting me! He kept talking about how expensive it is to eat there and how they could no longer comp me if I didn’t like the food because it’s a complicated process. Who cares? I said nothing about compensation or about the price of dinner or about wanting a refund. I said all I wanted to do was give feedback so nobody else got treated the same way. He also said that I “shouldn’t feel bad about speaking up in the moment” but I never said I felt bad about speaking up (anybody that’s ever met me knows that’s never been an issue for me!). What I said was that I didn’t ask for a manager at that time because it was my birthday and I don’t want to complain or have to explain why I deserve decent service on my birthday. I wanted an easygoing day! And after wasting 2+ hours on that poor experience, why would I want to waste more of my time? If Val is any indication of how the Maestros’ managers handle things, I would’ve just been talked over, not listened to, and left even more frustrated - exactly what I wanted to avoid.
At any rate Val didn’t listen so all of this seemed to go over his head. I couldn’t get a word in with him. At one point I literally had to say “can I just say what I need to say without interruption?”. When that didn’t work, I just asked for an email that I could write to because I there was no space for me to speak. But I’ve decided it’s better to let others know publicly what to expect since trying to handle it privately was a terrible experience as well. I have no interest in going back for the 2 free drinks and dessert that Val offered as comp - this whole thing left the worst taste in my mouth. Bad restaurant service is frustrating, but getting talked over when you try to leave feedback about it was SUPER frustrating. Customer service is not a core tenant here at any level. I won’t be back and I do not recommend this place for others.
