To start, I am not someone who ever leaves negative reviews. If you look at my review history, I’ve only left positive feedback, and only on rare occasions when a business or individual truly went above and beyond. I have never once left a one-star review in my life — until today. This afternoon around 3:00 PM, I visited the Stop & Shop on Enon Street to pick up a few items for dinner, as it’s the closest grocery store to me. After checking out using self-checkout, I remembered that my wife had asked me to pick up a gift card for a birthday party my son is attending this weekend. I returned to grab a gift card and went to the service desk, recalling that gift cards must be purchased there rather than at self-checkout. When I arrived, there was no one behind the service desk. One nearby register was open with a line of customers. I waited calmly at the service desk for approximately 10 minutes, assuming someone would arrive. Several employees walked by, though none appeared responsible for that area. After waiting, the employee at the nearby register looked over and abruptly said, “WHAT DO YOU NEED?” The tone was extremely confrontational and conveyed clear annoyance. I explained that I was trying to purchase a gift card and held it up. He then rolled his eyes and said, “Service desk is closed.” This was confusing, as there was a sign directly in front of me stating that service desk hours are 9:00 AM–7:00 PM. Rather than argue, I gathered my items and began to leave. Another customer behind me remarked in disbelief and exited the store. As I walked past the register, I calmly asked the employee, “Just to be clear, you’re telling me the service desk is closed right now?” He again responded aggressively with, “WHAT DO YOU NEED OVER THERE?” I repeated that I was trying to buy a gift card and continued toward the exit. At that point, he began yelling at me to come back. Once home, I called the store and spoke with a manager named Jason. I explained what happened, and he handled the call respectfully and professionally, saying he would address the issue with the employees involved. I appreciated his approach. For additional visibility, I have also contacted several district managers regarding this incident. I worked at Stop & Shop as my very first job when I was 16 years old in Danvers. I spent years in retail and customer-facing roles throughout college and have continued working in customer-facing positions in my professional career. In my 28 years of work experience, I have never acted this way toward a customer, nor have I witnessed a colleague behave in such a manner. This experience was disappointing and completely avoidable. I hope it is taken seriously so future customers do not encounter similar treatment. However, reading the reviews for this store before writing this, it seems there is a long and repetitive history of similar interactions. Clearly local store management does not take this seriously. I will continue moving up the corporate chain.

Unprofessional. I needed help with an online delivery order, the person that answered didn’t have access to the order until it’s about to be shopped, so I asked to speak with a person or department that does. They said there’s no one in store that has access so I asked if there was a supervisor that might know where/who handles online orders. Employee transferred me back to himself, then forgot to mute me while he told the manager that I kept “bugging him” about my order (it’s not my fault I was transferred back!) and kept me on the line, unmuted, while his manager took another call involving another customers name and details. I expressed my frustration with this to the manager but was off put enough that I chose to hang up and try and solve my issue through the app

Employee was extremely rude when the self checkout register was acting up. It happened once and he audibly scoffed and said that the machine “could he used by a child”. Trying to be calm (I also work in costumer service so I understand that everyone has bad days sometimes), I once again needed assistance after I took too long to bag an item. The employee walked back over and rolled his eyes at me when I thanked him for his help. When I finished bagging and paying, despite hovering over my shoulder the entire time I was scanning, he told me that he’d been working at this location for twenty years and that “it wasn’t that easy”, implying I was trying to steal. Overall terrible interaction and I would rather go out of my way to another grocery store than have to deal with that employee again

The store is usually clean and nice.. never really had a problem with the food. However every time I stop at the deli or walk past the deli.... I get a weird vibe. Seems the workers are always uncomfortable by one person that works there. Not sure if he's a manager or not but every time I walk past he's either angry or being rude to customers or yelling at the co workers and swearing at them... I came to find out that his name is Andrew.... A skinny kid. Some days he's pleasant some days he's a bat out of hell.... It's not right that the employees are being treated this way by just a coworker if he is a coworker OR a manager... Definitely won't be stopping by the deli anymore. Haven't been in there for a few weeks now. Saw him yelling and dancing in front of an old woman one day calling her a dog and I felt so uncomfortable that I ran out the store to my car and starting crying... I was so embarrassed for her. NO ONE should work in that type of an environment.... My daughter who is 7 years old even felt so sad for the workers and that woman that day.... It's shocking that this type of behavior is aloud...
