I was really disappointed to see the way the floral manager was treating the employees there today. She was a woman with brown curly hair. There is a time and place to give corrective teaching, but yelling at her in front of customers about her mistake is really not appropriate. And going behind her back to gossip about her (good natured) mistake to her coworker is definitely unprofessional. I am giving two starts based on the way she treated us as customers buying balloons and the employees in the flower department. I hope the employee who is learning reads this and knows that managers should not treat you like that. We should all expect more from this store and its managers.

Convenient but overpriced and lower quality. Bought a stale sandwich to order and asked prior if the bread was fresh. Have had trouble in the past with freshness at this and other locations. Save yourself the stress and go to Market Basket for better prices, selections and freshness product.

I am writing this as both a detailed review and a formal complaint because the level of unprofessionalism and disregard for customers at this Star Market location has gotten completely out of hand.
For months, I have been dealing with repeated issues involving a woman who works in the south self-checkout area, I believe her name is Irna. I shop here multiple times a day for various orders, and every time she is working, it turns into an unnecessary ordeal.
She is consistently rude, argumentative, and dismissive, and she goes far beyond what is appropriate for her role. Every time I buy anything age-restricted, she insists on taking my ID and walking away with it, even though I am standing right there and am clearly a regular customer. I completely understand the need to check IDs, that is not the issue. The issue is that she feels the need to physically take it and walk off as if it is for her own enjoyment or control. It is intrusive and unnecessary.
Beyond that, she constantly tries to tell me that I am using the Scan and Pay QR code incorrectly. She insists that I am doing it wrong, saying I need to scan the QR code before I even get to the payment screen, which makes no sense since there is a specific button for using the QR code in the payment menu. Anyone who has used it knows how the process works, but she refuses to listen, interrupts constantly, and treats customers like they have no idea what they are doing.
It does not stop there. On more than one occasion, she has become visibly angry when corrected or when a customer tries to explain something. I have personally witnessed her throw store baskets in frustration and even attempt to walk off the job mid-shift because she was upset or did not want to deal with the situation. It seems she would rather make a scene and storm off than admit when she is wrong or handle a situation calmly. That is completely unacceptable behavior for anyone in customer service, let alone someone consistently placed in front of customers.
There is also an older man who works in the same checkout area who takes the same attitude, constantly insisting that it is just this specific register malfunctioning or that I must be the one doing something wrong. His responses come off as defensive and dismissive instead of actually helpful.
There was another incident in produce with a younger male employee. There were no signs anywhere indicating which scales customers could use, so I used one that was nearby. It was not labeled for employees only. The moment I did, he began shouting across the department, scolding me publicly instead of calmly explaining. That is not how you treat paying customers, especially when the signage failure is on the store.
After dealing with these repeated issues, I went to the service desk to file a complaint. Unfortunately, the same man who often stands by the self-checkout was the one handling the complaint. He brushed it off, saying things like, “We will talk to her,” or, “The store manager already knows.” Weeks went by with no change. When I pressed further, I was told the store director would bring her in for a talk, but given that nothing has changed and she continues to act the same way, it is clear that either management is not following through or does not take the issue seriously.
This is not a one-time problem or a misunderstanding, it is a clear pattern of bad behavior that management is fully aware of and continues to tolerate. This employee has not only treated me poorly but has also caused problems for my husband and other regulars who have mentioned similar experiences.
If a person cannot control their temper, refuses to communicate respectfully, and continually creates conflict with customers, they should not be in a customer-facing position. The fact that this has been going on for months with no meaningful resolution says a lot about the lack of leadership in this location.
