Wow. Don't bother coming here if it's anytime close to 3:00pm. You won't be served with the excuse "Our register is closed". I arrived at 2:50pm on Friday February 20th, waited at the counter for a couple minutes to be served. I asked the barista for an iced chai (which is pre-made and poured out of a bottle here). Her response was that the register was closed. Now, I'm not going to insult the intelligence of their managers or staff by saying that they're too inept to balance a single $7 transaction after a register drawer has been counted down. I mean, it would have been a credit card transaction, and I'm pretty sure (with several patrons still in the building) the employee hadn't actually counted down or 'closed' the register. Even if their credit card batch had closed for the day the funds get deposited regardless of time before 12am, the transaction would post the following day. Pretty sure a single transaction wouldn't screw up their books or bookkeeper. This situation wouldn't have been so annoying if it wasn't the 3rd time it happened with this same employee. **sigh** I really try to support these little independently owned coffee shops since their competition is so great in the city, but it makes it very difficult when management doesn't do their due diligence to prevent situations like this. The very fact that they close at 3pm vs the majority of their competition which stay open to 9pm or later, tells me this might be more of a management issue than an employee issue. I wonder how many New Orleanians, service industry, first responders, medical staff, etc. would like an early afternoon / evening coffee? I've never seen an empty coffee shop anywhere in this city after 3pm. In the barista's defense maybe management didn't train her properly, or they misled her to think that it's difficult or impossible to ring up a sale after "closing time". After several visits, I've given up trying to rationalize it. I've been served at this establishment by other baristas (one as recently as a few days ago) 3:15pm, so clearly I'm missing something. We need to support our independently, locally owned businesses, but I believe it's a 2-way street. Service like this is unacceptable, unjustified, and just bad business. I'd still love to see this establishment succeed, but they need to get it together.
