The truth is, you don’t become a Louisiana favorite just by putting the word “authentic” on your sign. When you’ve served Cajun meals as long as we have, you learn the difference between real food and a bland imitation, and our guests know it too.
Grilled, fried or on ice–there’s time cooked into every dish and time spent on every home cooked recipe, so that every aroma, every bite, every sip and every gathering is memorable.
We’ve spent more than 80 years creating a recipe for something much greater than a place for a lunch break or night out. It’s a place to share (or keep the whole plate to yourself), a place where you always have a seat ready at the table and a place where you’re always part of the family.
While many customers praised the seafood and specific dishes, there were notable complaints about the quality of certain items, including issues with freshness and preparation.
Service Excellence
Numerous reviews highlighted exceptional service from various staff members, with specific servers receiving repeated commendations for their attentiveness and friendliness.
Atmosphere
The restaurant is generally described as having a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, although some reviews noted it could be busy.
Pricing Concerns
Several customers expressed that the food was overpriced relative to the quality, with some feeling that portion sizes were inadequate.

In lousiana for a short period but was wanting great seafood. Was not very busy (which should have been our first clue) but it still took forever to get our food. The shrimp was rubbery and very fishy. The gumbo was very watery and salty with very little in it. The rice was very undercooked. The tea was good but not 4 dollars a glass good. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

The food was good but the service wasn't the greatest. It took a while for thr waiter to come and get a drink order and forever for a refill on the beverage. The poor service outweighs the good food.

Our waitress was Michelle, she was fabulous! She anticipated when we needed our drinks refilled, when we needed napkins, and when my husband asked for tartar sauce, she brought an extra one for us. She was so good, my husband told her she was the best waitress we've had in a long time. We were both impressed because nowadays it's not common to get good service. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

I couldn’t think of a better place to get a large group of people together for a good time. I scheduled a surprise birthday dinner weeks ahead of time for my wife. We had about 40 people there. The staff (Alex and Junior) worked flawlessly through dinner. That couldn’t have been a better experience both for my wife and every one of the 40 people that were there. The food was great, record turnaround time from ordering to receiving food and exceptional staff. If you have a large party, don’t hesitate to book with Don’s. They have a professional staff that can handle it.

Decided to have dinner here after two or three years of not eating to due to previous poor experiences. Table ordered a crawfish bisque, half dozen chargrilled oysters with a chicken andouille gumbo, and the zydeco shrimp tacos.
The crawfish bisque was a roux based dark brown "bisque" that wasnt really a bisque, but more of a gumbo and it was not that good either. The chicken andouille gumbo was an actual gumbo and not bad, but nothing to write home about.
Onto the oysters, oh man, two things about them. One, I have never been served chargrilled oysters that were not absolutely ripping hot and unable to be touched until I got these. They were just beyond warm, butter wasnt even bubbling in the shell, the cheese wasnt even charred. Two, these oysters smelled bad. Like really bad. I know youre thinking well Daniel of course its an oyster. No, this was a rancid oyster/seafood smell accompanied by a rotten egg taste. And this wasnt just one oyster, it was the whole half dozen. Yikes.
The Zydeco tacos I got were decent, but you can get those about anywhere in Louisiana for the same result and cheaper.
Overall, beware the oysters.
