What a wonderful experience! We came here for the first time today for the buffet. The food was delicious and service was very kind. This place is a hidden gem for sure! We can’t wait to come back.

We went to the lunch buffet (which I think is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:00am- 2:30pm) which, admittedly, didn't have too much variety (it had chicken masala, some different types of curry, french fries, naan, different types of rice, gulab jamun, etc.). However, all the food they did have was EXCELLENT. It costs $17.99 per person and I recommend you go with an empty stomach. The meat was tender. Everything was well seasoned. And something that I really enjoyed was that the buffet had a lovely masala chai tea which you could serve yourself. The staff was friendly and immediately said that my purse was cute. (It's of BMO from Adventure Time.) They refilled our water regularly and were, overall, lovely. We didn't have to wait at all to be seated and we actually had an entire room to ourselves for a little bit. (Maybe people were at church?) If you're willing to spend about $20 a person for a nice, quiet lunch with delicious food and a peaceful atmosphere, I highly recommend it.
Also, TRY THE GULAB JAMUN. I went in not knowing what it is and left with a potential addiction. It's the only thing we got a picture of because we were OBSESSED.
I’m writing this as a late review (about a week after visiting), but honestly, I couldn’t stop myself from sharing my experience.
We drove almost 3 hours from Kentucky to Lexington just to try what was advertised as Thakali food. As a Nepali, this wasn’t just another meal for me — this was something personal, something I was genuinely excited about.
We arrived right when they opened around 11 AM, and we were among the first customers. The service was handled by two young staff members. While they were polite at first, the overall experience quickly went downhill.
Let me be very clear:
If you are calling your food “Thakali”, there is a standard and expectation that comes with it.
In Nepal, a proper Thakali set means:
• Bhaat (rice)
• Daal
• Tarkari
• Saag
• Achar
• And most importantly — the ability to get refills (thapnu)
That’s the heart of Thakali culture.
Here, not only did the food feel average at best, but when we politely asked if we could get a refill (which is completely normal in Thakali tradition), we were denied in a rude and dismissive way. That was honestly the most disappointing part.
It felt misleading to label this as “Thakali” when the core experience and hospitality are missing.
Yes, I understand we are in the U.S., and authentic Nepali food is hard to find — but if you’re going to represent something so culturally specific, it should be done correctly and respectfully.
We spent almost our entire day traveling for this, and it turned out to be a very disappointing experience for our whole group.
Final thoughts:
• Food: Average
• Service: Disappointing
• Authenticity: Not Thakali
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this one deserved it. Also seems like university students were working there part time, not actual worker
1 star.
