Customers called him “Butch” (short for “Butcher”), but to our family he was Grandpa Amos and the founder of Critchfield Meats. This little composite above reminds us of our roots and Grandpa Amos’ little old-fashioned butcher shop. He taught us well. He taught us how to select and cut fine meats to perfection and the necessity of putting customer needs first. Grandpa Amos made owning and operating our family business enjoyable for everybody, especially the customers. Maybe that's why personalized customer service is such an important part of our business today. The knowledge and skills Grandpa Amos passed on to us are virtually unattainable these days. And at the heart of it all, you could say we are just fun-loving chips off the old butcher block. Yep, we inherited a lot from Grandpa Amos, not to mention our receding hairlines. Then again, just imagine how much we've been able to save in haircuts over the years.
Customers frequently praised the high quality and selection of meats, though some reported issues with spoiled products.
Customer Service
While many reviews highlighted friendly and helpful staff, there were notable complaints about rude service and poor handling of complaints.

Pricing

Store Atmosphere
Some customers appreciated the nostalgic, family-owned feel of the store, while others felt it had lost its original charm.

Loved coming here at the beginning when they first opened, but since, every time I've gone every few months or so the quality of service and food has decreased. The staff that works here has seemingly zero enthusiasm every time I have been in here. I usually always come for the fried chicken meals since they inherited the recipe from the Kmart that was originally there. At first, it tasted just like the old recipe, but ever since the taste has slowly faded into an unseasoned and dry chicken with overpriced sides I would be better off making fried chicken at home. I wish they would turn it around here! It's an awesome concept with superb potential to be the most popular thing around, but between staff with a perpetually sour mood and overpriced food ($10 for a little pint of pasta salad!!!) it is not worth it in my book to come here anymore as of now.

I was driving through for cigarettes and waited what seemed like forever. Cars behind me. The cashier (supposed manager) was fumbling around with a computer issue. I suggested maybe closing till the problem is resolved. He handed me back my debit card and said that I could get them somewhere else. Offered to wait but no…an apology instead of an attitude would have been more appropriate!

I just love this place. Best meat selection in Lexington and the butchers are so kind and informative. Feels like stepping back in time 70 years.

High-quality fresh food, decent prices, great neighborhood grocery store. My only negative is a small iratation with some cashiers. They like to talk with other employees while customers are waiting to check out. BTW you must try the fried chicken!

Shopping here is experiencing a cross between a gourmet shop, a custom meat store, a deli, and a small grocery store. I love it. You can find a selection of almost anything edible. Not the biggest variety, but always solid quality. Seems like it would be great for entertaining, as they even have catering sizes of some dishes. Always a wonderful array of deli salads, cheeses, and baked goods. And they made their reputation at the meat counter with their initial stone in Zandale shopping center, so you know their fresh meat and seafood are first rate. Always a pleasure to shop here... Now where have I heard that before?
