We enjoyed lunch at Farmers Bistro today, and honestly, this was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Iceland. If you are traveling through Iceland, put this place on your must-visit list!
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and incredibly friendly. The staff were absolutely incredible — genuinely some of the best service we have experienced anywhere in Iceland. You could tell they weren’t just doing a job; they truly cared about the guests and wanted everyone to have a wonderful experience.
The owner was fantastic, funny, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what she does. Her dedication to quality food, great service, and doing things right was obvious throughout our entire visit.
And then there are the mushrooms! 🍄 They grow them right there on site, and Farmers Bistro is home to Iceland’s largest mushroom farm. You can taste the freshness and quality in the food.
We had the vegetarian buffet, and I can honestly say it was the best food we have eaten in Iceland so far.
The mushroom soup was absolutely incredible, savory, rich, and packed with seasoning and flavor. You could taste the pride, care, and love that went into making it.
And the freshly made breads just never stopped coming! They were fantastic on their own, but then came the butter. The regular butter, herb butter, red bell pepper butter, and garlic butter were quite honestly some of the best we have ever tasted. We kept thinking, surely they can't make another one that's even better — and then another one would arrive!
Every mushroom and bell pepper dish was SOOOOO good. Everything was fresh, flavorful, beautifully prepared, and clearly made with incredible attention to detail.
Vegetarians and vegans are especially in for a treat here, with fantastic gluten-free and dairy-free options that don't feel like an afterthought. This is food that anyone would be excited to eat.
I also want to give a special shout-out to the young woman with the glasses and beautiful curly brown hair working in the kitchen. All of the staff were absolutely wonderful, but when you are surrounded by greatness, there is always someone who is setting the example and she was that person.
She was an absolute ALL-STAR. Her energy, attention to what was happening, and the way she contributed to the experience really stood out to us. Whoever is lucky enough to have her on their team should know what an incredible employee they have. She deserves a huge raise! And honestly, she could probably teach a master class in customer service to people all over Iceland.
The whole experience was a perfect example of:
Great concept. Even better execution.
If you miss the opportunity to visit Farmers Bistro while you're in Iceland, you are missing a little piece of the heart of Iceland.
This wasn't just lunch. It was an experience filled with incredible food, wonderful people, laughter, hospitality, and genuine passion.
Farmers Bistro gets 5 stars from us — and honestly, we'd give more if we could.
My wife loves mushrooms, so when she saw the sign for the place when driving by, she had to make a reservation. We stopped in for lunch and had a lovely meal. We sat outside, which was lovely, and more quiet than inside. The burger was quite delicious however the breadcrumb bun couldn't really hold up to the burger contents and started to collapse to become a bit of a mess. Worth it, but ask for extra napkins! We also tried the mushroom ice cream, because why not? It is much better than one might expect. It comes with a layer of honey on top, and that is needed for the first bites, to help with the uniqueness of the taste. It is not a very sweep ice cream, but it is quite interesting, and much better than I expected.

If you're a mushroom lover, Farmers Bistro is truly mushroom heaven. Their specialty is the Mushroom Gourmet Buffet, which offers a fantastic variety of mushroom dishes, including the best mushroom soup I've had. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are self-serve and included with the buffet. If you're not a mushroom lover, there are also other menu options available, so there's something for everyone.
The service was friendly and efficient, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Located close to the Secret Lagoon, it's a perfect place to stop for a meal before or after exploring the area. I would happily return and look forward to visiting again on my next trip to Iceland.
