- ABAbbie BrunoApr 5, 20261.0Went to Dairy Queen tonight. Our total was $29.73. Tried to pay with a $50 bill and they flat out refused it. Said they’re “not allowed” to take anything over a $20. I’m sorry… what? Since when are we just not accepting U.S. currency? Are we seriously at a point where businesses would rather lose a sale than have basic tools or common sense to verify a bill? No counterfeit pens? No training? Just… “nope, we don’t take that”? It’s honestly ridiculous. Cash is legal tender. Real money. And more and more places are acting like it’s an inconvenience or something suspicious. Not everyone wants to swipe a card for everything or rely on a screen for every single purchase. We’re slowly turning into a society where cash is treated like a problem instead of a standard, and people are just expected to go along with it. No thanks. If you’re open for business, you should be able to accept actual money. Turning people away over a $50 bill is wild. So we drove off. They are now out almost $30 in product because it was already made and sitting there. Thank you highland location for staying open the extra 3 minutes passed your close time and accepting our $50.00. This will be our new Dairy Queen Spot.

That policy makes no sense in this situation, especially when the total is already over $20. I even offered for them to verify the bill, but the manager refused without offering any alternative or solution. Because of this, I had to leave and go to another Dairy Queen in Highland , where they accepted the exact same bill without any issue. Poor customer service and a lack of basic problem-solving. This could have easily been handled differently, but instead it was an unnecessary inconvenience. I won’t be returning to this location.
