I hate to say this because my first visit left such a great impression, but this most recent experience was a real disappointment.
When you first opened, the food genuinely stood out. The fries were thin, crispy, and clearly fresh, and the steak sandwich was juicy and full of flavor. It felt like a place that cared about quality.
This time around, it was a completely different story. The meat was overcooked and lacking seasoning, and the fries tasted noticeably off…. like they had been sitting far too long. For a place that once did them so well, it was surprising to see such a drop in quality. Fresh-cut fries take effort, but that extra step is exactly what sets places apart, and it didn’t feel like that standard was being met here.
The staff was kind and the restaurant itself was clean, which makes this even more frustrating, it’s clear the foundation is there. But the food just didn’t live up to what it used to be.
I’ll also mention the relish. I understand the Chicago-style tradition, but the bright neon color (coming from artificial dyes) feels unnecessary, especially when you’re already asking customers to trust the quality of everything else on the plate. A more natural approach would go a long way.
And to top it off, I didn’t receive a drink or even a cup with my order and didn’t realize until I got home. It’s a small detail, but combined with everything else, it added to the overall letdown.
I had actually recommended this place to guests based on my first visit, so this was a bit embarrassing. I’m not sure what changed, but at these prices, consistency matters. Right now, it’s hard not to consider making the extra drive to other local spots instead.
I really hope this was just an off day, because this place clearly has the potential to be great again.
