We are BIG fans of Portillo’s, but this Rockford location Sucks!
My wife’s hamburger was cold, when she got a new one they didn’t say sorry or nothing like that. I ordered a dipped combo, wasn’t wet and very little beef! We ordered a large onion rings and were missing from our order, had to get up and get it, again no apologies! Rockford needs to train their staff on how to treat their customers and properly serve their food!
So disappointed!

You can't miss with the Italian beef. Would have given them all 5 stars but drive thur was way to slow. One employee taking the orders on a Friday night and she must have been new but the employees are nice and food great.

Ordered food with a group a friend's, friend that ordered after me got their food before me, several others were that way as well, once I got my food, manager explained that they lost the ticket, refunded my money, gave me 2 vouchers for free meal and dessert, still got my food, which was great by the way, great customer service without having to say anything.

Moving reviews from Yelp and this was originally published 11/13/16:
Pretty typical Portillo's...which makes it a little slice of heaven for those Chicagoans who have moved away but find themselves back in the area for one reason or another. For me, the reason was a 3-day meeting and this was the reward as we headed for home. I took 3 uninitiated co-workers and all 3 loved the place. I knew in advance what I would get and also what I would take home.
For dine-in, I went with a Maxwell Street Polish. Eating this sandwich in Rockford, Illinois didn't quite bring back the memory of the original versions I consumed in the wee hours while thoroughly intoxicated and not entirely sure we would make it out of the Maxwell Street Market area altogether unscathed...but it was close. I like the nice char they put on the sausage, the copious amounts of grilled onions on top and the delicious flavor of the Polish. It's the kind of flavor that stays with you all afternoon as a reminder that this isn't the kind of food you should eat every day but that once in a great while it's fine.
For carry-out, I had them box up a pound of Italian Beef, a large container of sweet peppers, bread and a chocolate cake. There have been times when I've wondered if I would be able to get back in the house after a trip to the Chicago area if I showed up without those items. Let's just say "better safe than sorry." For three people that amounts to two nights of dinner as long as proper portion control is exercised. The wife has the whole reheating/preparation process down to a science and we really enjoy having a delicious Portillo's beef every now and again.
I really can't say enough about their chocolate cake other than sharing this story: we moved out of the Chicago area just before my 30th birthday and the wife threw a big party at our new home to celebrate the event. Several of my Chicago friends were going to make the drive and one asked me if there was anything I wanted from the area. Without skipping a beat, I requested a Portillo's chocolate cake. This was a few years ago and Portillo's wasn't fully set-up for the idea of selling a whole cake "to go" but my buddies figured it out and imported one for me. Not sure if it was the keg we had in the garage or the Portillo's chocolate cake but I do have fond memories of that birthday party!
