  Jewel Osco is a huge convenience for anyone looking for quality kosher food and a wide selection all in one place. The kosher section is impressively stocked, with everything from basics to specialty items, which makes shopping much easier. I especially appreciate that they are open seven days a week, so even when I need to grab something last minute right before Shabbos, I know I can rely on them. Clean, well organized, and consistently dependable. A great resource for the community.

  At the Jewel on Howard and Kedzie Great selection of kosher products. They have their own kosher bakery and kosher deli, meat and fish, wines and frozen foods. Good kosher cheese selection.

  In my recent visit today (12/11/2025) to the store to pick up some miscellaneous items for us, around 6:30 PM nothing out the ordinary, outside under staffed relative to check out personnel, not unusual for this location. Waiting in line for extended periods almost the norm now here. The reason for this review is more product quality related then service related. I arrived homes with our items, and later in the evening, I decided to eat one of the JJ Cherry pies (small individually wrapped) something did not taste correct, so I immediately spit it out in the trash. In looking closer at the box it came in, the box states "best used by 10/17/2025) wow, I showed my wife, and we were a bit shock or a lot of shocked that old stale food is lining the shelves of our local grocery store. I will be returning this item in the morning sometime tomorrow as time allows. It is certainly not about the money here, it is many people are entering this store and many other Jewel Food Stores across the city of Chicago and most likely have the same issues going on. What is scary is this little dessert treat is one thing, but now it makes you think about all the items in the store. How about the meat (packaged already) or the items by the fresh fish counter, or the refrigerated items or eggs, bread etc.... There is obviously no strict policies in place here, straightening and facing is one thing, but I am sure the stockers are clearly not looking for this type of issue. It is also scary that we are spending our time to travel here to the store, and our monies (hard earned for many of us) to wonder or find out we are purchasing old, out dated, stale food to take home and at some point prepare in any fashion required to ingest into our systems. No quality control at work here for sure, and I believe even if you brought to the attention of the store, they would use the standard expected statement " we are very sorry" for they believe it sounds really sincere, and that they actually care about this here. I guess we have to check all labels before checking out or leaving the store in fear of putting ourselves or our family members at risk in getting sick from bad food (spoiled and expired) with our hard earned dollars. They should be shut down for the appropriate time to have health inspectors come in and do a extensive aisle by aisle to be sure they are selling safe, fresh products to their customers, but realize that this will not reach the corporate towers to even care. Profit before safety in play here. Be careful on what you select from this Jewel or any of them now to be sure you not taking home bad food of any kind to your loved ones or for yourself. If there was a choice less than one star I would have selected it for sure. Thank God in some respects my grandfather is not here today (he was in upper management for the company) he would be appalled at this style of concern or lack there of and lack of good management oversight.
