Don Javi Taco Grill is easily one of the best new additions to the Countryside area. We’re in the neighborhood often and were excited to try it when it opened on La Grange Road—and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
Although they’re part of a small local chain, the restaurant feels anything but corporate. Knowing they make their tortillas in‑house at their own factory in Stone Park really shows in the quality of the food.
The restaurant is a freestanding building with a drive‑thru and easy parking. Inside, it’s clean, modern, and welcoming, with sealed concrete floors, an open ceiling with exposed black ductwork, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe. The only downside was the hard plastic chairs, which weren’t the most comfortable—but that was a minor issue in an otherwise great experience.
Ordering is done at the counter, with food and drinks brought directly to your table. There’s no self‑serve soda fountain, but refills were offered without hesitation. They also have a nice selection of bottled and canned Mexican and American beverages.
The service truly stood out. The staff was genuinely friendly from the moment we walked in, and the chef/manager stopped by our table twice to check on us and make sure everything was perfect. That level of attentiveness says a lot about how much they care.
The food was excellent across the board. We started with chips and queso, and the queso was rich, creamy, and far better than anything mass‑produced. I ordered the Mexican‑style steak—thinly sliced steak with onions and peppers served with their fresh, house‑made tortillas. It was flavorful and perfect for building fajita‑style tacos.
My husband had the thin salted beef with rice, beans, and tortillas, while our third diner chose three tacos: fish, asada, and pastor. The fish taco was the clear favorite, but all three were well prepared and satisfying. We also appreciated that all meats are cooked mild by default, with spice levels easily customized.
We finished with an unforgettable dessert: chocolate cake topped with flan. Each layer could stand on its own, but together they were outstanding—the flan in particular was silky, rich, and not overly sweet.
From the warm service to the fresh tortillas and consistently great food, Don Javi Taco Grill is a fantastic addition to the area. We’re already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. Highly recommend.
